CHOICES!

Hey FOLKS!  I need your help!  WOOHOO I'm so excited after, living in this loft, 12 years, and having a bare minimal bed in my master bedroom, meaning, metal box frame and two headboards that were supposed to be for Boo's room... I just got my NEW BED!  I feel like I  can finally make our bedroom a REAL decorated room.... and not just the room we hide stuff in, that we don't want visitors to see... hahaha! So, OUT goes the headboards... OUT goes the metal box frame....

IN GOES my new BROWN cozy bed, (the exact same bed I have at my house!!! I LOVE MY BED)... Add some new deep purple and white stripe sheets (LOVE STRIPES), looks good with the Raspberry ice paint job from this past summer! And also, IN GOES my RUG I bought for my KITCHEN, that was moved to my ENTRY HALL, and now LIVES in my BEDROOM!  It's all very complicated, decorating, isn't it?

So, You know I have a few KING size quilts laying around here.... This is the AFRICAN FABRIC    top I made last weekend... I was going to put that fabulous zigzag border on it, but now realize, this quilt pretty much fits this bed EXACT...  IF I put the border I wanted on it, it will go to the floor.... I may just add a 5" border down the lengths, so that it hangs the same down those sides as at the end... 

It looks good right?

But then, I made this last summer with the intention of THIS one living on my bed.... I still need to add the borders...  I really like all the purples, grays and browns in this... It does look good!  And look at all the nice spots for QUILTING in the gray bits.... LOVE THAT!

Here's the Ragamuffin Quilt on the bed.. This quilt is so huge, it hangs all the way to the floor all around the bed.... Although I love this quilt, I'm not sure it's right for here, right now... I still need to applique' 2010 on it... And get it quilted...( I'll send this one out, it's WAY to big  for me to quilt...

And here is the quilt I made for my Husband probably three years ago... It has lived on our bed for as long as well...For as simple as this quilt is, I just love it.... the colors, the yellow twist to add a bit of surprise to it... I love the navy BLUE in this room...  But I think it's time for a new Quilt....

Although I love my Xmas crosses, I slept under it for  two weeks, and then took it off and put it away.. I'm so afraid of the dogs ruining it.. It's my all time favorite quilt... the "I can't believe I made that quilt"  so I keep it on my quilt pile....  Do you have a quilt like this? that you love so much you won't use it?

And lastly, my "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" quilt... This quilt seems to work everywhere...  Another big time favorite, I hate to have the dogs ruin it... decisions!!!

So?  Which one should live on my new bed??

Everything But the Kitchen Sink, 2009

It is my most favorite quilt that I have made...

Being a puzzle Junkie, and wanting to use up the 10 years of Orphan Quilt blocks that I have accumulated over the years.... I Puzzled this quilt together... 

It is filled with every technique that I have learned. 

Many of which were only last year!

I actually started making this quilt 10 years ago... The bottom row of this quilt was pieced from blocks that I had made from baby quilts made when I adopted my daughter... I was not a serious quilter then, and I attempted to machine applique down the bits, thinking I'd make a whole quilt..

I got very bored with it, stuck it in a drawer, 

and 10 years later pulled it out, and started putting the pieces together....

I had some antique blocks that I wanted to use and set them in the corners...

Then I took all my practice blocks, flying geese, scrap school house,  y seam stars, 

9 patches, bits from all the charity quilts I have made, Blocks from new and old friends,

and anything else I had to fill up this quilt...

I can see years of learning in this quilt...

Stories, memories, fabrics that went into quilts that made a difference in some one's life.

And it resembles the crazy quilts my grandmother used to make...

This is  my FEEL GOOD quilt...

It just makes me smile when I look at it...

I  love it when everything falls into place... It maybe a busy quilt, but boy, to me,
it is ONE COMPLETE THOUGHT... chock full of memories... what can be better?

Leftovers!

Cleaning out the stash... As I pulled out all those orphaned blocks for the kitchen sink quilt, I took out the leftover blocks from the 9 patch gather quilt we all made last year.

I think these are a few of Dee's Blocks and a few from Susan. I think they work well together!

Today, I put the last blocks together for one more quilt for Donations
to go with the Sis Boom Pow kids blankets...

Good for wee lad don't you think?
Can you tell I am married to a Scot? wee lad... ;-)

Funny how the On POINT blocks fit so well with one of my favorite fabrics....
I guess it's subconscious thing!

Also, another yardage batch of another favorite fabric is going for backing on the Kitchen sink quilt. The green and red floral building blocks by American Jane... (bright green and red...like the cross quilt...I see my themes emerging again) completely by accident of course...

I also added some appliques here and there, with a few more leftover blocks...

Now I think I am ready to get it quilted and on my bed...

I'm in slight shock over here...
I actually finished piecing the Kitchen Sink Quilt....

I was really getting tired of it on my wall, and although I wanted it done, I wasn't mustering up the steam for the last push to get through it...

I swear it's the longest I have ever worked on one top...
I should have counted how many Y seams were in this monster... sigh.

I was having a hard time getting my Gumption up to finish it...
So much so, that I did nothing on it for days.

So this morning I thought, just give it an hour, and then move on to something else...

Well, let me tell you... This quilt had a mind of it's own...

As I had finally gotten down to putting the last corner on this quilt, it was 1" short.

I pressed the quilt, fixed a loose seam, Swiped it off my Sewing table,

pushing everything else onto the floor... Lots of fabric scraps, blocks etc...

I laid it out on the floor,
and

ONE scrap piece of fabric stuck to the quilt.

Not only was it once inch wide, but it was the exact length
to fill that gap you see just above the corner block...
the dark area where the floor peaks through...

the very last piece to add to this quilt...

plugging along...again

I am still plugging along on the Kitchen sink quilt...
I have the left side left to piece, and then I can attach the big bottom strip.

It's literally a sweat shop in my studio today, as it's nearly 60 degrees outside and rainy,
(IN JANUARY!!)
And the building has the heat on...
So before I sweat til I disappear entirely, I gotta get out of the loft...

I feel I have posted these so many times!

But look! I finally got them all appliqued!

I may be putzy, but it was so worth it! Now I gotta figure out the borders.

Sorry folks, you may see this one again a few times more, before it's finished! sigh.

I did get the Chinese new year quilt finished also this weekend.
Slowly, I am getting UFO's finished...

Shelly from shelly quilts and I are doing our 5th project together.
Paula Prass donated some fabrics for another donation quilt project, So we decided to divide the fabrics, and Shelly would do half and I would do half, I'll then piece it, She'll quilt it, and we donate it...
We decided on these little snowball blocks, and we would add whatever we wanted for the corners.... her blocks are in the mail to me so I thought I'd better get on the ball and get some of them done... I have 25 here, probably another 25 to do.
You can see hers here (click), The ya re so bright and fun! They go together pretty darn quick too...
Shelly actually kept her clipping and sewn together the tiny triangles you cut off... I'm sorry to say, mine went on the floor!
You should see my floor! Thank goodness I sweep every night!

Here are the 8 kids quilt tops for Sis Boom POW! gather DONE! (click here for more info) Pheew! I recv'd some more fabrics from Jennifer today, so I ripped open the box and started piecing them all together... Some are pretty scrappy and I will have to piece back also, as I am using up every scrap she sent me. Thanks Again Jennifer!

I was playing with my scraps as I was attempting to clean off my cutting table today, I like the block but not the colors, so guess what?

It know lives in the Kitchen sink quilt! (click)

The funny thing is I am running out of places to fill! And I keep finding more old blocks, or making something, not liking it and adding it into the quilt... Will it ever end?
I need to start a pile of ones made from this year to start the 2010 quilt...that might help.

Absence from my sewing machine has sparked my motivation!
Here is one AAQI(click here) quilt I started last night... It started with a thought about old traditions in quilting, new ways and possible futuristic ways... Then, this morning as I sat with B at breakfast she said, you should put words on it,
Forget the past, Enjoy the presence, be Hopeful for the future...
I think it's fitting... So when I quilted it, I put feathers in a traditional pattern around the outside, cross hatched the middle over the waverunner like bits, and then overlaid strips in a modern design over the whole thing...
I'm very happy with the way it turned out...
I hope you all make at least one to send in to Ami!!


I am just finishing the binding on the little tile one I also did for AAQI...
I love how the quilting puffed up all the appliques...

Speaking of my tiles quilt. I did finish all the appliques over the Christmas break... I was excited to get home and finish it as I knew I had the border already cut for it... You may recall this picture (here) Well, do you think I could find those border anywhere???
I searched through everything in my studio at least three times looking for them this morning...
Then I started to think, what on earth would have done with them...

I knew it was the same fabrics I had used in the Chinese new Year top, but only tiny bits... I knew I had used the same red in the doll quilt I just finished, (first for 2010!) but that was only a tiny bit as well... then as I went to my kitchen, there laying on the sofa was my Xmas log cabin quilt (here)... and guess what? there was my borders for my tile quilt... duh! and do you think I can find anymore of that fabric??? NOPE... oh well.. I had to order something new now...

But, the good news is, I found a lot of orphan blocks that have now made it into my Kitchen sink quilt(click here).... It's a big mama, let me tell you, right now it's at 100 X 94" I want to try to bring it out to 97" so it will fit nicely over my bed... I'd say I have 1/2 of this pieced... and another half to go... I make take one day this week and just work on it all day... I need my wall back so It needs to get done!!

I got the borders on this Oopsie quilt(click here)... Just need to find a backing... appliques are done.

I was happy to see when I got home, that this arrived... I won it on ebay. The squares are the size of a penny.... Isn't it fabulous!! no holes, or tears.. perfectly lovely.

And lastly, Pheew, I know a long post today... Joanna at applique today (click here) made this very cute mini waveruuner....

Lovely B in red, at a Christmas party last night...Waiting for the shrimp, and pigs in a blanket to come around for appetizers! Then that frown turned into a grin...
poor thing. Looks so bored! Good thing she had a yoyo in her pocket!
And we went to her favorite restaurant afterward... so life isn't all that bad....

Can I also say that I love my iphone!
It takes such great pictures!!

monday fun

We're back in NYC. We got plowed out late last night, and hopped in the car and cruised back to the city! Where's all the snow? they had 10" and most of it is gone already... I guess the heat from the buildings has melted most of it... It's all slushy already...
I was trying to clean up a bit and I found this project I started a year ago for Chinese New Year...
I thought perhaps I could get it done for THIS Chinese New Year! Better late then never....

I've played a bit with my Kitchen Sink quilt... this morning... Soon we are off to see the Princess and the frog with B and her pal... So i got my playing done early today....


Last night before we left, we had an amazing sunset.... Everything was pink... I hope the snow will still be there to play in on Saturday when we head back to our house after Christmas!
