Quilts I have been procrastinating : POST #160...

hehe!

yeah, I am digging out some oldies...

I am having a show of 6-7 quilts in MAY, and it was left up to me to decide

what I wanted to show... I decided on a bunch of my

Intuition or Abstract quilts...  Things that went together just for the pure fun of PLAY.

So I had to dig through tops and tops to find the ones I want to finish... 

this is One.

OOPSIE DAISY QUILT

It's fun to go back and see what I was working on a year ago. my how time goes by!

I ordered a bunch of fabric on line and when I got it, I thought, "OOPS! why did I order that? yuck! " but by chance I had this big floral piece sitting there, 

and by the end of that day I had this top cut out... LOL...

I've been anxious to quilt it, but needed a good reason to be motivated...

It's been great fun actually, just highlighting the shapes, filling in the black, and using

the pattern as a guide to how to quilt it...

I like the not thinking part...  :-)

I had a few good chuckles about comments on my Obsession with King size quilts...

I have made a few quilts that I just LOVE LOVE LOVE, 

but darn it, they are to small for my bed...

So? how to fix that?  Make'm all KING!

Hey, Ya never know when you will make just the right one...  

My goal when I make a quilt is always to make a quilt I will love and want to sleep under...  

That's good motivation, right?

Absence from my sewing machine has sparked my motivation!
Here is one AAQI(click here) quilt I started last night... It started with a thought about old traditions in quilting, new ways and possible futuristic ways... Then, this morning as I sat with B at breakfast she said, you should put words on it,
Forget the past, Enjoy the presence, be Hopeful for the future...
I think it's fitting... So when I quilted it, I put feathers in a traditional pattern around the outside, cross hatched the middle over the waverunner like bits, and then overlaid strips in a modern design over the whole thing...
I'm very happy with the way it turned out...
I hope you all make at least one to send in to Ami!!


I am just finishing the binding on the little tile one I also did for AAQI...
I love how the quilting puffed up all the appliques...

Speaking of my tiles quilt. I did finish all the appliques over the Christmas break... I was excited to get home and finish it as I knew I had the border already cut for it... You may recall this picture (here) Well, do you think I could find those border anywhere???
I searched through everything in my studio at least three times looking for them this morning...
Then I started to think, what on earth would have done with them...

I knew it was the same fabrics I had used in the Chinese new Year top, but only tiny bits... I knew I had used the same red in the doll quilt I just finished, (first for 2010!) but that was only a tiny bit as well... then as I went to my kitchen, there laying on the sofa was my Xmas log cabin quilt (here)... and guess what? there was my borders for my tile quilt... duh! and do you think I can find anymore of that fabric??? NOPE... oh well.. I had to order something new now...

But, the good news is, I found a lot of orphan blocks that have now made it into my Kitchen sink quilt(click here).... It's a big mama, let me tell you, right now it's at 100 X 94" I want to try to bring it out to 97" so it will fit nicely over my bed... I'd say I have 1/2 of this pieced... and another half to go... I make take one day this week and just work on it all day... I need my wall back so It needs to get done!!

I got the borders on this Oopsie quilt(click here)... Just need to find a backing... appliques are done.

I was happy to see when I got home, that this arrived... I won it on ebay. The squares are the size of a penny.... Isn't it fabulous!! no holes, or tears.. perfectly lovely.

And lastly, Pheew, I know a long post today... Joanna at applique today (click here) made this very cute mini waveruuner....

The snow has started! It looks like we will have a white Christmas after all!

12-16 inches predicted... we'll see... We are ready to play, fridge is stocked,

And I have enough firewood and sewing projects to keep me busy!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, let is SNOW!

but for now, I'm going to take a nap by the fire! (under one of my quilts!)

Oopsie fabric

So, last week, I had an idea for a quilt, so I rummaged online to find something that would work for it, in all the sales the stores had... I found exactly, to my surprise a fabric I pictured in my head, and as I was looking I came across a repro stripe, $3 a yard, and what I thought was a red and blue cream print... So I ordered it as I have a project here I thought it work with... When I got it, I thought, why did I order a black and red and cream stripe? Turns out I didn't look close enough... For a split second I thought, Rats!

But then I had a flash of an idea, and well, an hour later, I had this...

Turns out it was the best OOPSIE fabric purchase to have made... I'm having a lot of fun with these darn appliques..

B was putting some paper away in our recycling bin when she saw these paper packing thingy's. She decided we needed a packing thingy Christmas advent tree, so each day she adds a little toy to the tree... So far we have a recorder, bird and paper airplane... How's that for recycling!

5 Crowns card game... Do you know it? We play this constantly.

It's great for a 8-9 year old and up... It seems complicated at first until you get it figured out. We're completely addicted to this game, and everyone is getting it for Christmas this year... Well, not everyone... But, trust me, it's fun.

What's the best thing you've found this year that you wish you could just give to everyone?
