I'm seeing some fun creations on Instagram with my acrylic templates! Debbie took my LeMoyne star 15 Minutes of play class in Albuquerque, NM. I love the use of the Black and white Stripe!!  Gorgeous! She used my Large Diamond template, which you can find here.   This template makes for some fast fun quilts! Cut cup old quilt tops and give them a new look! Fill that space with glorious color! 

LeeAnn is making an older quilt pattern of mine, called Mix Master which was in APQ magazine...You can see pics at her instagram account. (a block from the quilt is her head shot) But here, she is playing with my Victory Block template set!  Love those dots!!! Which I shared with you in my last post, that we have two different patterns out now, using this template set... Scroll back to see more options! 

 So many interesting patterns can be made with this Victory Block template set... Including the TO THE NINES class I am teaching at QuiltCon! (image above) I'll be teaching an improv version using the template set, talking about process and how I get my ideas, and where you can PLAY to design your own!  So much fun!

Summer time!

I've been relaxing at my house for the summer, which means, cleaning up my tiny studio here on long Island... Every summer I go about trying rearrange the space to maximize it's small space and clean out all the other STUFF that accumulates all year long! How does that happen?  ( I have no idea!)

Summer is my favorite time to sit back, and dream up new projects and ideas!  My best work is done while getting my nails done, or even a massage. ;-)  Or walking along the pier having ice cream...(hey, you never know when ideas will hit!)    I'm working on many new templates and patterns right now!  I tell you, having a few weeks down to rest up, makes the ideas flood right in!

This is also a time when I love to work on my commission quilts.  I love designing for others where I can do whatever I want, make it as complicated or difficult as I can to make a beautiful gift for my customers.  This is a quilt for a collage artist... I had several ideas come together and figured, she of all people will truly appreciate the joining and layering of ideas in one quilt! Many of the fabrics were chosen by her, and my job is to make them live happily together, and fit a story I put together based on some writings by my customers about people in their family.  I have a back log of these works, as they often take me longer to get made, among all my regular deadlines and travels.

I've made quite a few quilts that are now being quilted... 

So I guess I should share with all of you, right?

This six piece set makes a Fun Kite and triangle block if you piece the small pieces into the triangle... Or, you also have the "Whole" shapes to use... See the variations below? I'm making a scrap quilt letting each block be completely different...  Solids, prints, you name it, they blocks all look so different and all pieced the same way. ADORABLE!!

 This quilt is quilted, but I haven't photographed it yet... I used all scraps from my scrap bin and a random amount of solids to make this sweet quilt. You can see I used the pieced triangles and the Solid triangles in this quilt... The navy, is used by piecing the whole pieces... Clever, huh?

Meadow Victory!

HOME!

I'm always a bit sad when we leave our house, where we stay all summer, to head back to NYC. I love NYC, don't get me wrong, but it's so nice to have that break...  I love my summers at my home on long island.  BUT, good news is, we missed HERMINE!  YAY!  We bailed early as traffic is a nightmare as it is, and bad weather just makes it even more intense getting back to NYC... So we came back a day early.  But not before I got my tomatoes canned!  More salsa this year, as requested by my family!  So all is right. LOL! I'm whipping up a Meadow Storm in my studio anyway!

I came back to a clean studio! (Very Briefly! I fly to Paducah Wednesday!)  So I had to break into my MEADOW STORM fabrics!  Time to play! My Victory Block set is my current FAVORITE to play with.  SO many options with this block, today I was playing with piecing all the parts... ( you also get a full triangle if you didn't want to piece the bits...)

I cut random pieces, then I laid them out on my designs wall... Looks pretty good to me. 

Time o sew the V's!  (My walls are covered in Meadow Storm!!)

Having the dog eared templates makes for such fast easy piecing... I can chain piece these very quickly.

Next into halves, then, pin that center, and finish!

Four done!  I'm to sure what I'm making yet... Waiting for inspiration to strike! Yes, that's how I work! I never really know how a quilt will turnout... I just start making.... You can too! This is a perfect template set for scrappy quilt! SO many options! VICTORY!!!!!!

Here is another quilt I have in the works. Just scrappy blocks with a pink yellow blue and white palette, every one  a wile I just make another random block. I will figure out what happens to them later... For now. Just make.

Victory block progress

Heading into a Holiday means I want play time!

Here's what I'v been prepping for this week, so i can play and make more this coming week:

I'm continuing to make my scrap Yellow Pink and Blue Victory Block quilt.  As I get a new pile of scraps, I cut parts out and leave them stacked up, then when I have  free minute to play, I put together     one more new block. Only thinking about designing the block to be different then the last one I made.

It's fun relaxing project... No pressure, just make. When it's time to put them together into one quilt I will look to see how the blocks start to connect...  This is what I love about this options you have for this template set. You have many choices in the design of the block, and can make some very interesting connections between pattern, and blending of patterns across the block lines!  I will be showing you more of the blocks make over the holiday break!

It's a great honor!  Above Rochelle made this quilt for a first Birthday using my Victory Block acrylic templates.  I love that she used them in various ways to make a improv fun story!  Keep sending those pics! I have made four quilts already with it, all completely different from each other, and Now....I have three more in the works... These are above are new fabrics by Leslie Tucker Jenison Urban Artifacts coming-out at Fall market... I'm in love with them!

I just can't stop myself!!  They are so fun to make!

Fall Market is coming soon, which means, new patterns, new templates, New Sizzix dies and new fabrics!!!  I can't wait to share all that news with you soon!

Victory Block Workshop

Last weekend, I taught at my annual 2 day retreat with friend, Maureen in Salem, MA, at the House of Seven Gables. It's by far one of my favorite places to teach!  Being able to come back each year and having a group of quilters that I get to spend more and more time with each time, is a real treat as a teacher... I get to know you better, I know your skills, I know how far you you can go beyond a pattern! It's very satisfying to watch everyone grow and change as a quilter!

This weekend was no different!  We had one big design wall, so all the various blocks could be added to see each others work. It's such a learning experience to see how the block changes depending on all the variations of color placement in this traditional block.

We focused on two patterns based on my Victory Block template set: Dancing legs, and Fade to Purple.  Next, students got to choose to follow the design or go improv and come up with their own design with the pattern... I think they all did beautifully, and I came away inspired! (...and eager to sew!)

Way to go Ladies!!! You all played Beautifully!  ;-)

MQX New England recap!

MQX New England was a lot of fun!  The Exhibit of Double Wedding Rings was so lovely to have!  I took my classes to the exhibit and related  all the things we talk about in class, to the quilts we were looking at...  Its such a treat to have that many pieces of work available to share! If you have my Double wedding ring book, you will have seen many of these quilts! Although I did have quite a few pieces that are not in the book. So the next time you can see them is at Paducah the end of the month!  Come by as I will be lecturing at the exhibit several times that week Hours will belated in the catalog... I have to look that up yet.  I am also Lecturing on Play and Creativity!  Don't miss it!

I taught a 15 Minutes of Play Class and a Double Wedding Ring pillow class.  When I only have one day to teach DWR's, we really only get on ring made in that time frame. But that ONE ring, is all you need to know to make an entire Double wedding ring Quilt!  Did you know that?  All the tricks you need for success happen within the ring, and then you constantly use those same tricks through the entire quilt.  The students made some really fun pieces!  Here are just a few of the pieces...  My Double wedding ring templates are available here!

It was nice to see some of my 15 Minutes Players at MQX! They even brought in their lovely pieces that they made! I love seeing what you've done with your 15 Minutes or your double wedding rings!  Keep those emails and pictures coming!
