Art of play

Ok! great day. I got the border on this quilt! The fabric was waiting in the lovely priority mail envelopes for me when I got home form the trip! It sure was Xmas in July!

This quilt took me on an interesting journey.

I began this quilt with a box of scraps and a few yards of odd colored pieces of fabric I had sitting here. Since most of my stash is in NYC, I pulled out whatever I had and started to
"cut and paste" and tried to find a way for the strange colors to find harmony.

If I tried to use what I know about color theory, I'd get some loud over the top nightmare,
like this nightmare below.


But if I kept taking fabrics, laying them side by side and waiting for them to say "YES!"
They began to surprise me, and it would flow...

I kept trying very hard to make this a "minty green with white polka dots" kind of quilt, and it was like taking my head an banging it against a wall over and over...

It kept fighting with me. Or I with it.
Until I let go, and went back to my routine of trying every kind of fabrics until it spoke to me.

Note to self: Listen.


Sort of like life, huh?

not so wordless wednesday

My Mother just moved to a new apartment, so when I was there we hit some antique shops to find a few goodies to make it more homey... So we found some vases, table runners,
and other lovely crocheted things.

She needs art work, and has some tough spaces to fill,
So out of a bag of scraps, yesterday,
( I was so excited to sew again!)
I put this bright runner together (above) out of the scraps so she could hang a
few mini quilts, toss around a few pillows to brighten up the place.

We had fun time finding just the right things and found some great deals...
I love old table cloths, and found this lovely brown one (above) brand spanking new... well, old but never used.... I was so excited.

I think the culprit is hiding behind B... muddy little paws.... :-) Jenny Egg is to cute to be mad at for tracking mud through my house...

Peas are picked, blanched and frozen, so are the GINORMOUS Zucs! Gotta hit some weeds today....

And maybe finish one of the three tops I have sitting here that I was waiting for fabric for...


I think the Scrappy Happy Quilt will be the one to get done today... it just needs
the border put on...

Before I can start something else! Last night at about 1 a.m. inspiration hit for a new top...
I very wisely made myself go to bed... or else I'd still be sewing... :-)

Scrappy happy! More playing and finally a decision. well, maybe...
still a WIP...But am now loving the way it's going.
Darn, Gotta order MORE fabric.

Might as well go to the beach....

both on her blocks and mine...

Ok! I get to sew ALL DAY! WOO HOO! wow.

So here I sit working on the Red Cross Swipe Quilt.

Don't mind my WHITE TAPE marks! It's up , and it works! ;-)
I know these colors were not favorites with many of you.
But I dug my heals in...

The three main colors of red, turq, and gold,
well,
perhaps I should rename this quilt,
The childhood memory home quilt. (but that's so long!)
Because these are the main colors that decorated the house I lived in for my first three years. I am quite drawn to them.

But really, I am so pleased with the way this is turning out. I just need to finish the blend pieces of the red and turq, and a few applique bits...

I'm also playing with this scrappy happy quilt.... I Still don't know what I'm doing with this... I keep changing it constantly. the only thing I know for sure is the minty green with white polka dot background.
But it looks nice laying on my lawn!

Well, enough break. Let's see what i can do with this thing...

friday roundup

I wish I had something exciting to post about today. But frankly, not a lot of sewing going on over here... I could tell you about the WAR going on in my garden with the Voles... But that's exhausting. I could complain more about the lack of sun, although today we had some, Yippee!
I could say I got three projects done this week. But that would be a FIB!

I decided I had to get something finished, so I started the quilting on the above quilt, a UFO.
My quilting time has been after 9pm, and often I stay up til 2am, but I don't quite know what I am accomplishing!

This is NO WHERE near any completion... it's a work in constant process...
Like my design wall? I have to tape everything up.(all the white specks)
I don't have any extra batting here...
and that fabric store is so far away.... it will have to do for now.
The colors in this make me so happy though! it's my little dose of sunshine when I come in the studio....

Maybe our playtime, and that quilt above are an influence on each other?

Well, If I can't sew, I cook. So after freezing more rhubarb today, I decided I had to try a new french bread recipe... not to bad!
I'll have to post that one later on trythisyourself

B will be in camp next week, so I hope to get more accomplished in the sewing department...
I need to finish these and the red cross quilt, so I can get back to making something even more random... The way I like it...woohoo!

We are a little rhubarb crazy around here...It's a huge family favorite..

This morning we made:
Rhubarb cookies, Rhubarb and strawberry muffins, Rhubarb bread, and rhubarb Chutney...

I will have the recipes on my food blog a little later today, or tonight...

not much monday

Not much going on over here... My wall has three different projects on there right now, but nothing is happening... I used my scraps to whip up these random blocks just to keep the creative juices flowing, while I sew together all the other little blocks on my red cross quilt... I just got the border fabrics for that so I am back and forth on that project and this one... I want this one to just be a real hodge podge of different things... just a happy fun quilt, without trying so hard. we'll see...

It's still raining, but the kids & company are in the pool anyhow! gotta go! Happy sewing!
