Still alive in NYC

 Signature Blocks are arriving!
You can read more about this or contribute see here
Here's what I have so far, laying on the fabrics I will use...
THEY LOOK GOOD!!!!

Did you all think I disappeared this week?

I posted only ONCE! haha! I'm still  here alive and well, had TWO quits that have
to be done in basically two and half weeks so I went into online hibernation
to get them done...
One nearly done, one more to go...

THANK YOU TO:
Beatrice,Margaret, Helen, LeeAnn, Shannon, Gail.
Cathy, Judy, Megan, Alexis and Carolyn

Carolyn stopped by this week to say hi as she was in town from the UK...
So nice to meet you Carolyn!

I have had a bunch of emails about whether I used a pattern for this jumbled up Kaffe quilt...
NOPE.
I have never used a pattern to make a quilt,  I have nothing against patterns,
I just enjoy the process of creating something from scratch.

If you look at the OLD posts about that KAFFE quilt,
You will see how it emerged and changed,
and grew, and then went into a box for hiding... haha

Basically I had those layer cakes laying here and just wanted to use them up
because I couldn't think of anything better to do with them...
I cut and sewn, and cut some more...I tried 9 patches, and didn't like them and cut
them up, sew stuff back together... cut again... turn on point, add borders...etc etc...
that's kind of how I work...
Taking it out of that BOX and cutting a few simple shapes has really transformed the quilt...
Do I think It's a gem?  Maybe not, but it "ain't half bad!"

Process is the most  exciting part for me. I like the adventure of not knowing
what will become of a pile of fabrics.

As a child learning hand piecing, I did use patterns to make pillows...
But I won't say I never will!  You never know, I have a few Friends books
laying around here, that I feel compelled to give the a whirl...
I still have Kim's CHALLENGE of do my OWN thing to one of her QUILTS..
Does that count as using a pattern?
I won't follow it exactly, But I can find inspiration from them...

I have finished tops and cut backs for SIX of my own OLD quilts in the last 10 days...
So soon I will have some more oldies to share with you!

I'll be scarce again for the next week, My show is installed Tuesday,
then I have my friend Shelly here next Friday...

The clock is ticking!

One more Novelty:
I had to dig out this piece of novelty fabric.
I snatched it back at the retreat from the scrap bin.
Thought it needed to live in my kitchen somewhere...
hmm, what will it become...

Have a lovely weekend!
Happy Easter!

Intuition complete.

I'm trying really hard to brighten up the outdoors....
I'm now making king size quilts of the snow banks.... LOL!
I jumped right in this morning bound and determined to
finish the last row on my scrap bin "Intuition Quilt."
I really think I thought that I would deplete my scrap bins of fabric
by making this quilt completely from scraps...
I swear they are like RABBITS!
There just seems to be more and more of them!

I had a thought that maybe this quilt will live in my guest room.
That painting up on the wall (on the right) is one of mine...
It's the exact colors of this new quilt....
I guess I subconsciously made a quilt to match it...It's a perfect fit...

It feels good to have a finish... Now to quilt another KING...

Happy Sunday!

F R O Z E N

We're back at our house, and guess what we were greeted with? NO HEAT!!!
It was 39 degrees in the house last night... We dug two space heaters out, one
for each bedroom, and then we all huddled around the fireplace
with all our clothes, hoodies, and bathrobes on....
 Lovely...
Yes, this is Boo sitting on TOP of the Space heater this morning...
NO, it's not on.. she had turned it off, and it was warm enough to crawl around on...
She said it's her new best friend...
I am sitting on the ledge of the fireplace...If I could crawl in I would..

I'm having flashbacks of growing up in MN and the COLD COLD winters...
(that's me on the back...circa nineteen seventy...something)

****

I cleaned my flat surfaces in the studio yesterday, and found these JP scraps,
and had to take a minute to play with them...  They are so enticing!

I think I should just chop up all my yardage, and just dive in...
I might not ever come up for air...
***
The fuel truck is making a third attempt at getting the truck into our yard... cross your fingers...
Right now my fingers are warming from the heat of the keyboard...
These are some wicked looking icicles aren't they.... Pointy witchy fingers...
My studio is downstairs and is very bright and sunny... SUN = WARM
I managed to sew a little this a.m. already adding that final dark border
around this already king size quilt...

**

Heidi asked, very comically, if the quilt for our school librarian
(yesterday's post)
was king size...  NO IT'S NOT!!!   Can you believe it! Gasp!
it's aprox 50" X 50" or so... guessing...
I look forward to quilting it...
I think I will QUILT in the letters for R  E  A  D  in the red squares...
We'll see what inspires me when I start quilting it...

I heard yesterday that 65% of the US is covered in snow....
Sorry, I can't stay focused...  quilts, snow, quilts, snow....

My brain is frozen...
gotta go hug the fireplace now...
toodles.

** Now after three more attempts this morning,
the fuel truck is stuck in a
snow bank
on our driveway...
He didn't get to our house... still no heat...
sigh.

1-1-11

Intuition Top nearly done...
Perhaps one more row to go around it,  to complete the thought....
This has been a fun project.
I used up as much of my scrap bin fabrics as possible.
Nothing was cut from yardage... All the fabrics were stuffed into 5 bins of scraps....

To think it all started with three red plaid squares...

See where a little inspiration will take you?

Now, having stayed up til midnight,
to watch the ball drop in our back yard (times square),

I think I need to crawl under this,  and take a snooze...

It's bright and SUNNY and WARM out today...
Our poor cute SNOW Dog has gone on to become a WATER (puddle) dog...
Snow be gone!

Happy 1-1-11!!

Your intuition is calling you.

Step one.

I'm doing a project with my friend Janet. We decided we would round robin two
matching blocks to make two quilts, so that in the end we each will have one.

I started it with the red cross,

Step two.
Added some blue and sent it on to Janet.

 Step three.
She added some strips and sent it back to me...
I love the colors that this project is taking on.
I really didnt' mean for it to be a CROSS cross.. so when I got it
back, I tipped it on point...

Step Four.
I added some bits around the square, then I couldnt' stop myself
and I added a scrappy bit across the top and some colors to highlight across
the bottom...

TWICE!  trying to scrappy bit two the same was a very fun challenge...
now we have two... And I will send them back to Janet for her to play with...
I had to stick them side by side, because I had to see just how great it would
look if I did a whole quilt like this!

How fun would this be?
A whole bunch of them together!

This is what I mean about PLAY time.
Think randomly, don't think about the outcome.
Come up with something new and unique to you,
and RUN with it!

You can come play with us, and make your own Intuition quilt.

I did find a backing fabric stashed away in my studio here,
packed away under,

"why did I buy this bright fabric?"
Now it's Basted and ready to quilt!

It's perfect for Nik's quilt! Bright cherry and oh, So fun!

Now Go play!
Let those scraps FLY!

Color beats back winter...

Inspiration all around on a snowy white day...
 Tasty lunch
I need to make some 1/4 circle blocks for our MOD guild...

It seems all the gummie bears I ate
inspired me...
Gotta love tasty inspiration!

Even in all the WHITE, we get a little blue sky

OOH! Even our visitors are sparked with color!
That makes me smile!

What's inspiring you today?

Snug as a bug

Thank you Jackie, for sending me yardage of
Robert Kaufman chartreuse green for Christmas....
How did you know I'd need that for the binding?  Your fabulous!
The Jennifer Paganelli on the back makes the whole quilt...
About 100 more threads to bury, but I will snuggle under it anyway....

Darkness came to quickly to snap a decent picture of the granddaughter's quilt...
But you get the idea...
Purple and green per her request, using the 5 shirts
she selected from goodwill
I forgot to bring a backing fabric along...
and no fabric stores near by... so basting may have to wait
unless I can scrap something
together... hmmm... more to play with!
And a little more scrap play....

Are stuck at home hiding from the snow?

Snow?

Cold Outside, but oh, so warm inside....
I thought we were getting a dusting of snow...
We're getting a blizzard!
LOL!
Guess I should listen to the news a bit more often!
I'll just stay inside and play... Go ahead and snow all you want.
I ain't going anywhere!

;-)
