Quiltin'

I've been machine quilting for days....  and doing hand work at nights... So far so good! This is the Quilt Alliance (below)"Quilter's took Manhattan" Quilt, slowing coming together....I still consider my self a novice in the machine quilting arena... I use my "15 Minutes" strategy to build my skills. How do I do that?  By Adding one new quilting design each time I quilt, a quilt.  My passion definitely lies in the piecing and making aspects of quilt top, but I know that with perseverance and an open mind, that my view will change as I get better and better.

I can say I've seen a big change in my quilting, and I can pat myself on the back for learning patience with it! Patience is key!
I really do love this quilt... And I hope it goes to a very good home when It's auctioned off, later in the year.

I've been using Aurifil thread in various pinks and yellows for the quilting, I love the look of the variegated thread on a busy background.

At the same time I'm quilting up a few others, that will be down at QuiltCon.  More on these quilts later...  But I have to share my NEW Skill on this quilt... the circles!!! Talk about patience...LOL!
It's looking good, but I must go VERY SLOWLY!!! (remind you, I quilt on a JUKI home machine...not a long arm)

Are you going to QuiltCon?

I'm excited to be in Austin in February! I figure by then, we will have snow here in NYC, and I look forward to lovely Texas weather!  It seems the gals who put QuiltCon together, Including Alissa Haight Carlton and Heather Grant, are doing a fantastic job, and I can't wait  to see how their hard work has paid off.  From one little idea to have a Modern guild, and to watch it grow into a worldwide adventure, is so exciting!  I'm so excited for them!

Our NYC MOD guild has about 20 members going down for the show! How much fun will that be! And I have two quilts in the show, so that is always exciting.   I can't wait to share pictures...

So for now, besides machine quilting, which I must get back too, I have 16 sleeves to sew on...
Gasp! Cough!
My mother is flying in today, so perhaps she will help me hand sew sleeves!!! More on that later too!

Have a super day!

Tuesdays work in progress

A quilting day... I took the best part of the day yesterday to start stitching in the ditch my "Quilters Play Manhattan" Quilt... Then I will plan what I will quilt inside.. I have and idea, and can see some embroidery to come on it as well...
Wait....
The Quilt Alliance will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary in 2013!
Did I show this quilt top finished here?
Maybe not..
Well here it is again... My brain is a bit fried and I cant' recall what is on 15 Minutes and what posted here.. I am so ready for a African vacation, (Purely a family vacation) No phone, no computer! No sewing machine! LOL!  Plus one throws Christmas into the mix, good grief! What day is it?

Back to this quilt... It will be auctioned off in 2013 for the Quilt Alliance!
And if you want to see where the back ground blocks where made, you can see the old post here.

I also snuck in a few more Santa blocks for my Santa Kitchen sink quilt, I realized I need to pick up some more "Santa" Fabric at City Quilter on Thursday when I am there. I sent out everything I had, and I could only scrap a few other "Santas" together to finish off my quilt!

I'm sifting through the quilts in the book 15 Minutes Play, trying to decide which ones to take along and share! I think Jenny Egg is worried I'm moving out! That is a lot of quilts tucked into that bin! I'm sure she wishes she could be sleeping on top of them!

Should be fun! I am excited to share the quilts with everyone! Hope to see you there!

Also! December Designers Lizzy B creative has the Final Aurifil Designer block up! Go see!

ready to quilt

The Quilt Alliance Quilt, "Quilters Play Manhattan", is basted and ready to quit... I hope to get much of it done this week!  I was so happy to use this Kaffe fabric for the backing, I think I've had that fabric for three years...I also have to get QUILTS ready for my trunk show/book signing at City Quilter on Thursday night. ( info at Side bar)

Yesterday Fed ex delivered a white fake Christmas tree to our house! can i say, Just how happy I am to have a fake tree this year? I had that tree out of the box and plugged in 5 minutes after the Fed ex guy left! I loaded it full of red, green and white ornaments, many of them are vintage ornaments, and home made ones... It was a surprise to my family as we had said we would not put up a tree this year... I had too.  Must have a tree, even if we're in Africa for Xmas... My dear friend Kim and hubby will be here and THEY need a tree! ;-)
When I was I Seattle for Thanksgiving, LeeAnn and I went shopping, and we were both oohing and ahhing, over the white Christmas tree displays... I love how it sets off the Ornaments! Super cute!

DAY 9 of the book tour! All these chances to win a copy of my book! Great Christmas gift for those quilt-y pals of yours!
