color trends: more options.

 Helen had it spot on... I had this quilt on my design wall, you know, the one I SAID would be the one that would live on my bed.. that it just might be the one!  (the one that has been staring at me all week on my wall, and I ran out of fabric for! oh yeah! that one!  I Gotta say, I love it!!! Now I better finish it! I have half of the top pieced... Just got the extra fabric in the mail... It goes together so quickly... I better just do it...

Well, after all that playing around, I made the bed up as I normally do with the blankets I use on it right now... The turquoise looks really good on it too! Dang it!    Although that's a queen size, I through it over my hubby's quilt because it's freezing in our bedroom, and hot everywhere else in our loft.. go figure!

Well, you all were right.. I will rotate them,  My Favorite is the African Fabric quilt. I think I will trim it down so I can still get that zigzag border on it... It really warms up the room...  I really adore the fabrics... And look! If you watch the color trends for FALL, Pantone has their colors for this year listed... My rug sums it all up!  Thanks for all your ideas yesterday!  I so appreciate you input!  I also want to get the brown gray and purple one done, and the top solids quilt... Good to cover all my options...  haha!

Lastly, just because it's very odd...and made us laugh....We came across this guy in the subway the other day.. his sign says,

"YOUR SMILE IS BEAUTIFUL!"

 Only in NYC... my friends... we see it all.

CHOICES!

Hey FOLKS!  I need your help!  WOOHOO I'm so excited after, living in this loft, 12 years, and having a bare minimal bed in my master bedroom, meaning, metal box frame and two headboards that were supposed to be for Boo's room... I just got my NEW BED!  I feel like I  can finally make our bedroom a REAL decorated room.... and not just the room we hide stuff in, that we don't want visitors to see... hahaha! So, OUT goes the headboards... OUT goes the metal box frame....

IN GOES my new BROWN cozy bed, (the exact same bed I have at my house!!! I LOVE MY BED)... Add some new deep purple and white stripe sheets (LOVE STRIPES), looks good with the Raspberry ice paint job from this past summer! And also, IN GOES my RUG I bought for my KITCHEN, that was moved to my ENTRY HALL, and now LIVES in my BEDROOM!  It's all very complicated, decorating, isn't it?

So, You know I have a few KING size quilts laying around here.... This is the AFRICAN FABRIC    top I made last weekend... I was going to put that fabulous zigzag border on it, but now realize, this quilt pretty much fits this bed EXACT...  IF I put the border I wanted on it, it will go to the floor.... I may just add a 5" border down the lengths, so that it hangs the same down those sides as at the end... 

It looks good right?

But then, I made this last summer with the intention of THIS one living on my bed.... I still need to add the borders...  I really like all the purples, grays and browns in this... It does look good!  And look at all the nice spots for QUILTING in the gray bits.... LOVE THAT!

Here's the Ragamuffin Quilt on the bed.. This quilt is so huge, it hangs all the way to the floor all around the bed.... Although I love this quilt, I'm not sure it's right for here, right now... I still need to applique' 2010 on it... And get it quilted...( I'll send this one out, it's WAY to big  for me to quilt...

And here is the quilt I made for my Husband probably three years ago... It has lived on our bed for as long as well...For as simple as this quilt is, I just love it.... the colors, the yellow twist to add a bit of surprise to it... I love the navy BLUE in this room...  But I think it's time for a new Quilt....

Although I love my Xmas crosses, I slept under it for  two weeks, and then took it off and put it away.. I'm so afraid of the dogs ruining it.. It's my all time favorite quilt... the "I can't believe I made that quilt"  so I keep it on my quilt pile....  Do you have a quilt like this? that you love so much you won't use it?

And lastly, my "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" quilt... This quilt seems to work everywhere...  Another big time favorite, I hate to have the dogs ruin it... decisions!!!

So?  Which one should live on my new bed??

NYC + Shopping+ Jackie

 Jackie and I both have a huge fondness for African Print fabrics... 

She has a huge stash of them which she has not cut into.  I didn't have a super large stash

of them, but I was savoring them, and also had not cut into them 

until about 20 minutes before she came to my loft.

I hacked up everything I had to make a very simple, KING (of course) block quilt.  

Then realized I ran out to finish the border...

 I began piecing this zig zag border for the quilt, using every last bit I could, before we decided 

it was time to go shopping... Since I live in the garment district, 

this happens very easy, and very Quickly...

I was on a mission for more African prints, 

and she was on a SILK mission...

BINGO!

 We must have went into 15 stores and we definitely found what we were looking for....  

Haggling here and there, winding our way through mounds of bolts of fabrics...

 

 I think I can say, "Mission Accomplished" on my search,,, and after a bunch more shops,

I think Jackie has very heavy suitcase full of silks.... ;-)

(and cupcakes)

 We had a bit of nice sewing time.  She pieced a project for herself..

 Saturday we had our NYC Metro MOD meeting.  It was very dreary rainy day, 

and everyone shuffled in wet and soggy, but it didn't take long for everyone

to warm up and settle in for some great show and tell.

This was Margaret's quilt made from clothing from her late husband. She hand quilted it, 

and added the Pussy willows applique over it... STUNNING. 

Look at the pieced scrap border... I'm in heaven!

I have to say, our MOD group has so much energy, and cohesiveness even though

we all do such very different things... You can see more pics at the BLOG site...

One thing we do, is we build a quilt every two months..(at ever meeting),

we a together as a group, we all bring the assigned blocks in and we arrange

it all as a group until we all say, "YES! That's it!"  This picture shows our Feb

quilt in progress, but this was not yet the finished product.

Then Saturday night we had a Girls night pot luck dinner... myself and 12 friends,

whooped it up til the wee hours of the morning... (wee to me anyway) midnight!

6 hours of extreme laughter and good food.

I highly recommend that if you don't see your friends very often...

Get them all together once or twice a year... This was my 3rd Annual dinner,

and I swear it makes you feel ten years younger to be so connected to other

women around you. (Or men, if your reading this blog too! ;-)

So to wrap it up, Jackie and I had a blast this weekend... I brought her back to the

train, and I wouldn't be surprised if she is totally exhausted.  I am! 

But I have 45 minutes before I need to be at a super bowl party...

GO STEELERS!  (Sorry Packer fans!  I'm and east coast girl now!)

Get home safe Jackie! I had a blast!
