NYC BASICS

I had Jackie quilt one quilt for me that I needed for the upcoming show end of April-May.  I've been trying to get all the binding done, sleeves put on, and labels... So I have been hand sewing like a mad woman... Funny thing, I cleaned my studio last week, right... Can't find my perle cotton that has my THIMBLE in it... there is a lot to be said about a messy studio... I know where everything is when it's messy because I look at it for weeks at a time!   But put it out of sight outta mind... LOL...Did I just, justify having a messy studio?

This is my last quilt that I need to FINISH for the show... I'm STILL machine stitching these bloody 1/2" wavy lines over this quilt... It's taking eons....  Parts got a but wacky... But I'm going with it...I fret less about making goofs on a quilt, as I know there will be many more to make, and with each one, some things will just work them selves out with more practice...  Don't sweat the small stuff, make another quilt!  I like that theory! ( for this quilt anyway) practice practice practice! (and wash it!)

My DQS10 quilt is bound, and I am playing with a few final touches to it... I thought perhaps a wee house on the alligator head of an island...  ( Shela, I contemplated the golf ball on the alligator head, but I'm sticking with the house. haha!)  That's OK, the lovely person reading that will understand it...

AWWW, see my Princesses? they woudln't care if a rock was under those pillows let alone a PEA!

A friend of mine whose children go to another school in NYC, did an after school project with the kids, and had them make quilt squares and donated them to me to make a quilt in honor of them for BASICS.  I thought that was a great idea...  I can't say no to that!  Thank you Allison! And the kids of VCS, THANK YOU!   I will put it together, finish it and send you all a picture!

We are OH SO CLOSE, to giving away that sewing machine!  We have 193 QUILTS!!  Perhaps more now, I haven't gotten the updated quilt list in a week...  One of you will be getting a new machine soon!  go to the site for more information. Bumble Beans BASICS

Snow in NY, stay in and quilt!

Ideas are flowing... I have nearly finished the top DQS quilt I made for my swap partner.

I wasn't quite feeling though, that I had enough "ME" inside it...
This does not mean I don't like it. I DO LIKE IT, for my swap a partner.
I free pieced it, as I do most of my quilts, the pictorial thing was
not feeling very "VICTORIA"

So I gave it another whirl.

I love the mix of new and old, and BRIGHTS are a "LIKE", of my swap partner.

So  played around with some 9 patches I made up at Jackie's this past weekend,
and then went a little "CRAZY" on the colors...

It's been so gray, I am wanting OODLES of COLOR all around me,
and this just makes me want to dance...
or as my pal Shelly says, "makes my SKIRT fly up!"

It's been so funny to see the reaction to it.. some love it,
some really have a problem with the 9 patches...

But that certainly wouldn't stop me from doing my thing...

I get such a kick out of it when people dislike something.
I  eel like, Aha! I must be on to something...

hehe.. yeah, that kind of drives me on...

I've totally had a blast making both of them.
they both took off like firecrackers ideas...
I worked on them until they were done...
Now I just have some hand
quilting to do on the top one, and bind.
The bottom, I think needs to be called
"Juicy fruit!"
or "Twisted Tradition"

I may hand quilt the dog out of it... If I have time...

Then I have to make a decision about which one
goes and which one stays with me!

I think both fit what my partner likes...
One in my mind fits her better then the other, but I can't tell you why...
or it would give it all away...
gotta keep the secret!

Thanks so much for all the great advice on the ipad!  I will indeed wait for the new one!
I am hoping they come out with it before March... We're going to PERU!
EEK! I am so excited... Thought it would be handy to take along with us...

Dear DQS Partner

Dear Swap Partner...
Whoever you maybe... You  may have already peaked through my images of things I like,
(favorite color orange, and obsessed with Crosses and Virgin Marys)
But I wanted to pop in to say, that my most favorite Quilt-y gifts
I have ever rcvd are from friends who

Did their own thing with whatever inspires them.

When the creative juices rev you up, jump in and create
til it makes you Jump up and down in joy.

My favorite Quilts that I have made,
have happened by complete
accident...

Making something from nothing is the best gift ever...

Have fun, don't stress...
Sew with a smile on your face...

PLAY.

hugs-
Victoria

DQS 10

Doll Quilt swap 10 partners, have been given out... I jumped right in to play...
I'm taking the opportunity to try new things, yet incorporate what I love to do...
make fabrics from bits...

It's hard not to be totally influenced by the Mosaics people make that show their LIKES...
So I am trying not to lose myself in the process of what I know about my partner...
and to still make something that represents me...

Thank goodness for the Sunday paper!
Hard to find paper long enough to paper pieces some geese otherwise!
Time to ponder my next move...

Are you already designing in your mind what you will make?
Or have you jumped into the creative pond too?

I love a good challenge!
