I did not buy a lot of fabrics, over in India. Most of what I found where silks, and textiles like bedding and scarves, etc… I'm at a point where I do have enough fabric.(GASP!) yes, it's true. I did not come across a place where I could just buy fabric on bolts… This said, We did only take a few hours, on one day, to shop anyway. My husband and daughter and I, are not big shoppers... We made the effort to stop at one shop, so I could flip through a few quilts, and here is what I purchased.
We have a fondness for Elephants in this house… SEE POSTS HERE. So, our elephant ride was the highlight of our trip! Therefore, Of course this quilt had to come home with me, right? They had a better one where all the elephants where clearly visible., BUT, If you know my quilts and my work, then you'd know why I chose the slightly ODD one, with the elephants visually, blending away. haha!
Perfect!
The big stitch quilting, and the fun fabrics chosen for the elephants, just made us smile.
I was deliberating over the chartreuse one. I loved the color! But I couldn't see where I'd use it in my home. This cream/white version, is King size, and may be a beautiful summer bed cover.

The second one I bought was this white reverse appliqué on cream background. The white pattern is cut from all ONE piece of fabric. Very cool.
I very much enjoyed the views in India! Particularly the one below in my shades.... ;-)
Today, though, I will take a break from any quilting matters, as today is my BIRTHDAY!
I'll be spending the day getting a massage, my nails done, eating the carrot cake, made with Beatrice, and heading out to dinner. ;-) a perfect day!
I have a gift for you!
I picked up these cute cards in India,
which is a collection on cards embodied by cutwork jaali patterns froth Mughal era.
Leave me a comment. Tell me anything SPECIAL about today, and
I will pick a winner Wednesday April 2nd, 7 a.m!
The most special thing about today was a rare lunch date with my husband! I LOVE your pictures of India -- so vibrant.

ReplyDeleteMy sister's wedding anniversary is today and she is not speaking to either of her two sisters including moi. I suspect the issue is encapsulated in this bumper sticker...there are three stresses in life. Family. Money. Family without money.
ReplyDeleteToday there is sunshine!
ReplyDeleteAnd a puppy curled up by my feet (13 years old count as a puppy in my world)
A cup of tea and lots and lot of ideas floating around in my head!
Happy Birthday! Both quilts you chose are neat and unique! Love the elephants...are you going to appliqué a pillow from the elephant pattern? As for today being special....today is the only day in history when Niagara Falls stopped flowing....it was caused by an ice jam and occurred back in 1848.
ReplyDeleteOh, Happy Birthday Victoria! Have a lovely day pampering yourself!
ReplyDeleteWhat's special about today? Just everything ~ I'm so grateful for my life and all the people (especially my son, dil and her family), my creativity and the encouragement of others. Sounds sappy but I've been doing a lot of reflecting lately, about a lot of things. It's so good to be grateful for the good and the seemingly bad ~ so many lessons to be learned.
I want to go to India!
How cool is this - today is also my older sister's birthday - she is 62 today!! Happy Birthday to you, too, dear Victoria. ReplyDeleteI started my day having breakfast with a good friend of mine, then we went our separate ways to run some errands. We got back together in the afternoon to see a movie - The Grand Budapest Hotel, and then out for some dinner. It was a fun day, and now I am back home, and sitting down to a cup of hot tea. It really is quite nasty out tonight.

ReplyDeleteTook the time today to plan a visit to Charleston. Sure there are quilt shops there.
Today was SPECIAL because I had the privilege of making mini-quilts...place mats with a few of my quilting friends. The place mats will be donated to our local counties to be given with meals on wheels this next week. Feels great to do something good and kind for someone else. Especially those shut in or with limited mobility. We each made six and that will generate over 300 to give. The only criteria for the place mats...make them bright and colorful! Easy! Happy Birthday, Victoria!
ReplyDeleteTook my grand kiddie, four, to her first quilt show. :)
