lazy days

Hand sewing is all I am getting done...Better late then never too! My Quilt Alliance quilt is still being worked on... sigh... I need red and blue thread to finish.... will have to go shopping!

I am really having serious sewing machine withdrawals... I just want to sit and sew, and get the ideas out of my head... I won't be home until around July 1st to get any work done....  Makes my fingers itch!!!

Rather clever, that the fish is spitting water into my head.... LOL!

Here's a fun shot when we were still up in Duluth... a very friendly deer came to say hi to us...

Have you done anything fun for summer so far?
Do you understand the "itchy finger"  syndrome?
Do you miss your machine when you are away? (Or am I just really odd?)

  2. I have spent the first part of June fighting off a nasty pneumonia, so yeah, I totally suffer from quilting withdrawal and itchy fingers.
    Enjoy Minnesota!

  3. I could be machine-sewing, but an obsession with hand-applique has come over me. Perhaps because it can be done in my lap, out on the deck, enjoying the ocean view and nice cool breeze off the water??? Sewing room is in the back of the house, and it gets hot back there, not so appealing on a summer afternoon! Might need to set up a portable table outdoors, and find a really long extension cord...

  4. Hello! My name is Kathleen and I am enrolled in your workshop in Chicago June 29. Small world coincidence. We were just up on Lake Vermillion at our family cabin this weekend and drove thru Duluth. Wasn't it freakishly warm this weekend?

  8. TOTALLY get it...I am having a case of itchy finger syndrome myself. I looove my machine and cannot stand to be away from it. Sewing for me tomorrow though, and I must say I am looking really forward to it!!!!

  9. You are not alone.....I have been there! You may have to do what I did and invest in a portable vintage machine. It may not be like your Juki, but, it would get the job done, and you wouldn't be "Jones'n" as badly! LOL

  10. I'm okay as long as I at least have a hand project with me. Sometimes I want to sew on my machine and sometime I prefer the hand work.

  11. Oh yea, the itchy finger syndrome. Can't imagine being away for a month. At least you've got handwork. I once just about hyperventilated when I was on an island for a weekend with handwork, but no needle! Aargh!

  12. Are you kidding? I miss my machine when I am at work . . . maybe I should think of a career change. Hehehe. Love the water shot and the deck on the lake. I head to Wisconsin in August and can not wait!! Enjoy your vacay. oxox

  13. If I am away I don't mind not sewing because I am so busy enjoying where I am. If I am at home though the machine is not far out of reach and I think I take it for granted! I spotted a fawn in the backyard this past weekend. My quilting friend who lives in the country saw the fawn and said she sees more wildlife at my house in the city than what she sees living in the country!

  14. Oh yeah I get the sewing machine withdrawal.........okay how about if I sew an hour today and dedicate it to you? Will that help? No, probably not, but your hand sewing is looking divine, another winner :0)

    Safe travels and Happy Sewing

  15. When I bought my Juki 2010, the dealer gave me a Juki HZL-27 for free. Tiny, lightweight, portable. It lives in our little Airstream camping trailer, along with an old cutting mat, a travel iron, various fabrics and a sewing box filled with anything I may need. So, while my hubby is fishin', I'm sewin'!!! Great way to spend a relaxing weekend away from home!!!

  16. I need a break from my machine every now and then, so I consider hand sewing a vacation...so calming, quiet, and s-l-o-w. Am loving all your decorative stitches in the QA quilt! Any deer tracks in there?

  17. Hey. I troika
Yep I get it -----you want the sewing machine more because you don't have it available. You probably wouldn't get much done, but just knowing it was available is comforting! I have found that my inexpensive, but reliable and portable---janome was a great investment---just to available when traveling or visiting a sewing buddy! I also purchased a rolling little piece of luggage to carry it ,and leave it stocked in the closet with notions, some fabrics, and basic tool kit---so it's always ready "to go"-----it's really a good investment that you will use more then you realize--trick is buy something lightweight and small--so bringing it along doesn't feel like a burden of extra luggage.

  18. Totally get the withdrawal! I had to go the last 2 weeks without sewing due to demanding hours at work. Hearing you speak last week and going to the quilt show in Duluth made me twitchy to get back on my machine, so I did yesterday. Started out with the mindset of 15 minutes... which then turned into... oh, I don't know... about 15 HOURS!! Making up for lost time, I guess!

  19. Totally understand the Itchy Finger Syndrome. (I'm sure it's a proven condition!). You're looking so relaxed - love that clever fish spouting water through your head!!

  20. Oh I so understand what you are going through! When I'm away from my machine I embroider or quilt and buy more fabric.

  21. I need the occasional breaks. I usually knit while I am away from my machine and enjoy the change in crafts. I was in Duluth on Saturday.. great show! Haven't we had the best weather lately?!

  22. When I go to MN in Sept, I'm taking my machine with me (maybe more than one). I'll be stitching while hubby is backpacking. The good thing about driving vs. flying is, I can bring a machine with me, and sometime even come home with another machine, too (I collect vintage machines).

  23. Yes!!!! Chores for others every day, then home to do mine. Every time I think I'm going to have time, it runs out! I'm not sure though, it might be worth it if I was at that beautiful water with you!

  24. Yes! I always have a variety of handwork that goes right along with me or I go mad!

  26. I have a major case.... my neck and right shoulder and entire arm and hand have been giving me lots of grief during the past 5-6 weeks and it stinks. I never expected to have an issue like that at 52...
