Birthday Stash! What a great gift of fabric from my friend Sherry in MN... We had a lovely time, and Boy! does she have me pegged with a gift of yummy fabrics!

I Recvd the 9 patch quilt back from Linda, I just love it. So I am now getting that binding on ASAP and shipping it off to them this week. I Really am so happy with this quilt. It looks so good.


These two Quilts, I sent off to Owen's Big sisters. One for each of them...
And some Stickers for Owen. I can't imagine what it must be like for the girls either, and thought they might need a little extra something special too.

They are going to be doing a benefit in May, perhaps I'll make another quilt for them to raffle... Anyone wanna help? ;-)



I started cutting another quilt... I had an idea, and now have changed my mind! hmmm, now to make these pieces work into something different...

Darn those Girls Scout cookies! They just have to come out a week before we go on vacation...

Whats been up here? well, I feel like not much! Life has sort of piled up, and I'm ready for Spring. (have i mentioned that before?)

So, looking on the brighter side of life,

Spring WILL come this month. YIPPEEE!

I will become a year older.

I will get to Florida for some MUCH NEEDED SUN... (I never mentioned that before?) really?

I MAY get to even have a cup of tea with lazy gal Tonya, if I can work it out... Wowza!
that would be cool!

My best friend is coming next week to visit us.

My other friend Monica, whom I am teaching to quilt, finished her radiation this past week for Breast Cancer! WAHOOOO!!! yippee!~ And we have some serious quilting to do before I take a VaCation.

My 9 Patch Gather Quilt, will get mailed off this month. Which I would officially like to rename, "Nothing but Kisses" (XXXXXXXX get it?) Donation, helps kids, etc... perfect right?

And I can order my seeds for my garden! ooh. that means a lot less quilting...

My Harley can finally get its NY inspection sticker updated! If we can just get rid of this snow!

And the Cabin can be opened up in APRIL!

Ah. that cheers me up!

Other than that. I finished the Rays of light,(pink yellow green) quilt top, and am trying to find an economical backing. I've got loads of fabric but not so much to have enough for backings... I'm working on not buying anything more than I have to... Will post when It's together...

OH! I am making a booklet for myself through LULU.com just to have a record of all my quilts...I've done cookbooks through them before and they were really great. Now If I could just get through the 2008 family pictures.... put that on my to do list... a while longer...

I'm playing with all the fabulous Charms I got from Commonplace Charm swap. They are on my wall right now... trying to inspire me...

And that's about it folks. Just Trying the sunnier side of the street...

9 patch update

The 9 Patch Quilt is boxed and being shipped to Lovely Linda, who has offered to long arm it for us! Yippeee!

I am making a label for the 9 Patch Gather quilt, and want to have everyone who helped, have their name on it. I have attempted to keep a list, and THINK I have everyone who sent me blocks on this list.

If I forgot, I AM SO SORRY, Please send me a email. Organization is not my best quality...

tuesday progress

Procrastination no more... I was rather scared of finally putting this 9 patch together... I just thought trying to make everything line up that it would end up all wavy etc... so I was dreading actually sewing it together.... I tend to NOT do a lot of small pieced patchwork quilts...

BUT! I have half of fit together, and I must say, It's gotten me to SLOW down, and actually enjoy the speed in which it is going together... So, I am doing a few rows a day, with the goal of Friday to have it all put together... I do find that I am thinking about two quilts ahead as I am putting this together... ;-)

So maybe I put it aside for now, and do a little on something else for awhile.

Sunny but cold, in NYC... will it ever end.

9 patch

Here is my plan for the 9 patch. All the pieces are planned, cut and I'm ready to rock it out.

If you're not seeing some of the squares you sent, know that I have enough extras for a Baby quilt which will also be made and donated to a special cause. I have TWO friends with children under 3, who are battling cancer. So the other squares will be made and donated in their honor, to raise money for Childhood Cancer.

I've also been asked by another friend to donate a quilt , for a fundraiser for local charity called FOSTERPRIDE.

Founded in 1993, Foster Pride is New York’s only non-profit providing free art, video, photography, music and computer classes as well as scholarships and mentoring to children in the foster care system. Our goal is to help foster children learn to express themselves, develop new skills, and build self-esteem through the arts.
When founder Lynn Schnurnberger visited a New York City foster care agency for the first time, she found it filled with fidgety children waiting for appointments with their caseworkers and supervised visits with their birth parents. She searched for a way to transform their restlessness into creative energy. Within a few months, she had organized a weekly art class for fifty children and Foster Pride was born.

I'm very touched to be able to help. It feels good! Give it a try!

9 PATCH GATHER

In March of 08, My daughter B, had an idea, as we sat in a restaurant waiting for our food. She was drawing pictures of animals and people on napkins, and said, Mom, maybe you could sew these together, from the pictures i made, and we can sell them to raise money for a charity. Well, i thought that a grand idea, and so we did.

I have posted about this before, I think, BUT, a really cool thing happened recently.

From the sales of the animals, B raised $600, which she then Donated to Love Without boundaries. basically the foundation raises money for Children in Chinese Orphanages, who need medical attention and can not be put on the Adoption list. Which means, they are not adoptable, and will grow up in the system...

So, B was able to select a child that she wanted her money to go to to help. Recently, we rcvd a note, from the Medical co-Director as a follow up.



Dear B & V,

We have just heard wonderful news! Jin, the little boy you sponsored for hernia surgery no longer needs to have hernia surgery any more. The hernia has healed on its own and we are so happy that he no longer needs surgery.

Because Jin no longer needs surgery, we will be able to reassign your donation to help another child. There is another child from Jin’s same orphanage that has anal atresia and a heart defect, baby Yu. We are planning to move Yu to Shanghai after Chinese New Year so that the doctors at the Children’s Hospital associated with Fudan University can fix both of Yu’s defects. I have attached a photo of Yu for you.

Thank you again for making a difference for a child. We appreciate all you are doing to help these precious children!!

Any dry eyes? I'm very touched by the fact that the have sent hand written cards, emails, pictures etc. to let us know how the money has gone. I'm very touched.

As I sit here cutting squares from my scrap bin, I was thinking about how or who else we can help.

I'd like to ask if anyone is interested
in hitting their scrap bins?

I'd like to make a quilt from all the scraps we have but can't figure out what to do with. I've been cutting 2" squares out of my smaller scraps, and I've decided, to ask everyone if we can get a bunch of people to contribute 9 patch squares, out of 2" blocks. I'll put them all together and probably donate it to them for their yearly auction...

If you'd like to help me, send me an email. you can send as many 9 patches as you want, but please use your scraps. It's about using what we have, to help someone else.

2" cut blocks sewn together for a 9 patch... Mine trimmed down is just under 5" squared finished.

Please, if you want to contribute, MAIL them by FEB 14th...
