No, I'm not looking for compliments, I'm looking to see what you learned or thought was interesting! Which quilt, or technique, or comment on the show, etc etc...
I'll do a give away prize of my Double Wedding Ring Template set! I'll pick a winner and announce it on Monday the 30th.
I saw the show the first day out. I am always impressed with your ability to take an old pattern and make it modern. I was not disappointed. I just got your template set in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to start-Janet Wright
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much!!! I really enjoyed to see how to make the free curves and how to ligne the fabric up for sewing. And this pinnig of the melons, pin it there where it belongs to, such a great tip!And the birdie is just sooo lovely! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI belong to thequiltshow.com and watched last week. I also bought your Wedding Ring book recently, so I enjoyed all of your tips. I need to get the plastic templates. I recently made a pickle dish, and cutting the shapes was the least fun using paper templates. Can't wait to make a wedding ring quilt!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting the Quilt show episode on your blog for free! I bought the wedding ring template a few months ago, and I have been having fun with it ever since....didn't make a quilt yet...but it's coming soon. Plan to visit your store soon
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat! Loved your all tips especially the pinning of the melons. I'm ready
ReplyDeletefor the Bright Lights, Big City. Thank you.
Linda
Love the breaking down of the double wedding ring into do able pieces and the 3 pin method!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to use rotary cutter in a different way now - I loved the gentle improv curves, and also your double wedding ring looks so achievable - it's now on my list for the year. Thanks for posting the episode.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great show. I loved all the tips too, especially the one about cutting a block you aren't happy with and adding something new. Also the way to piece the melons in rows instead of having y-seams.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the episode! There were so many wonderful tips. I loved how you
ReplyDeletewore your three pins, showed how to place the pins and how to position one's hands to allow the feed dogs to do their job. As always, I find your presentations inspirational! Thank you!
I watched the show and I was interested in how you sew the rows together.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those people who said I would never make a Double Wedding Ring. I probably won't make one with pieced arcs but I am thinking about one of the other ones. Who know where that might lead me.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Show! I am fascinated by the variety of Double Wedding Ring Quilts you have come up with. The thing that most surprised me in the show was when you took the improve block you didn't like and cut off the corners and added the additional fabric. It was a simple idea but made such an interesting change to the block.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this episode with your readers. I enjoyed the video. I am amazed that you have made 60 double wedding ring quilts. Amazing and they are amazing. I enjoyed learning you are a Harley rider. I have friends who ride. What I learned was how to cut free form curves with mirror image. Thank you again.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed this episode. I really liked your acrylic templates and how you can use them to see patchwork or orphan blocks and fussy cut the parts of the wedding rings and centers.
ReplyDeleteI struggled with the connection of the curved pieces but watching you pin ,pin, pin helped me one, finally after years of dreading this. I hope to make a table runner for now.
ReplyDeleteI especially liked the idea of sewing from the heart and improvising. And I loved the Gees Bend quilters and their singing. I hadn't thought about making a double wedding ring quilt before but now I think I would like to. Pat in Chicago
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching the show! Thank you for the opportunity! What I got most out of it was that there are no rules, we have permission to "think outside of the box," we are encouraged to do things a bit differently. Your work is such an inspiration and I look forward to using those techniques in my future quiltmaking.
ReplyDeleteI belong to TQS and watched the show and couldn't resist. I had to have the templates. I started working on a DWR quilt yesterday!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the idea that if you don't really care for something, cut it up and make it something else.....yeah...
ReplyDeleteThe 3-pin method. Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank You Very Much, very enlightening.

The show was very informative! I know I can tackle that DWR quilt restoration for my friend after watching. I had a workshop with the Gee's Bend ladies at QuiltCon 2015. I had them sign the piece I was working on. It was funny because they asked me if I was sure I wanted them to write on my piece with a sharpie pen! I said yes, please! I brought the sharpie for that specific purpose. I guess no one had ever asked them to do such a thing before!
ReplyDeleteI am 38 minutes into the show and am overwhelmed.... so much to absorb. The first thing I noted was head in the wind..... that is me exactly, things are fun if my head is in the wind.... (and I don't mean on a motor cycle) seventy years and you have put my idea of fun into words... now back to quilting.. the show goes so fast it is hard to stay on track. And dear lady you are an artist.... most of us are not so it takes longer for us to see possibilities... so back to the show.
ReplyDeleteWow - what a great show. I have to watch it again. I really enjoyed the wedding ring segment and how you piece the melon together - you made it look so simple. Also I admire your color sense and plan to visit your store next time I come into the city to get some templates and your fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the three pin inspiration
ReplyDeleteSewing curves with no pins or only 3 pins - wonderful. Using other blocks in the double wedding ring really spices it up. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThank you Victoria for this nice gift. I love your capacity to mix colors and very different fabrics : your modern style with traditional blocks is fantastic. I'm not live very closed to NYC :)) but I hope to visit the city and come to your studio. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLoved the show! I think you've simplified the DWR construction with your pin placement and curve positions (floppy toppy and belly on the bottom). Can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteAlways learn more tips every time I watch you teach curved sewing. Have also seen you with Nancy Zieman. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite...and freeing statement was when you don't like something, cut it up! I have an unquilted top that has been sitting around for WAY TOO long. I am going to cut it up. Thanks for the encouragement.
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me think outside the box. My head started to spin with ideas of using other traditional blocks in a "modern quilt" style.
ReplyDeleteI like the floppy toppy part. Phrases like that help us to remember the sewing tips.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great show. I have your book and now get to get started. Love your feeing approach to quilting. You make sewing curves look so easy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, the show was wonderful. All of the quilts were beautiful but I was drawn to the solid colors DWR, I'm in a solids phase right now. I've done curve sewing but never knew about that small dog ear to start and that's the first thing I'm going to practice. Thanks again, I feel like you opened a door for me.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've seen the Quilt Show. It was inspiring to see your method for
ReplyDeletegentle curve piecing. My first double wedding ring was made with Eleanor Burns's turn and stitch it down method. Now I think I would like to do another as you showed us. Thank you!
I am struggling right now with HST's just can't get those points. I love the gentle curves look NO POINTS, and I agree quilting should be fun and right now it's not with HST's. I have always wanted to make a Double Wedding Ring. It was the first pattern I was drawn to, but thought I should hoen my skills before attemping it, you broke it down so easily. Thank You
ReplyDeleteI have a link right HERE for that dog ear, which I talk about in the show. ;-) http://bumblebeansinc.blogspot.com/2015/09/back-to-school-blog-hop_30.html
DeleteFloppy Toppy! I wish I had known that when I was making 'Bright Lights & Big City'!
ReplyDeleteI like that you aren't afraid to just cut the fabric (or block) to see what happens. You are correct, it's only fabric we all have more of that. You can also cut it again. Words to live by!!!!
ReplyDeleteGREAT Job!!!

One little thing; that's gonna be tough to do. Your on-air-personality was perfect-- friendly, confident, joyful. It was just a huge show for reinforcing the absolute beauty of life. Templates with improv, making do with making art. Loved every minute of it and was moved to tears. Thank you so very much for making this available to inspire us all.
ReplyDeleteLove your encouragement to just try it...there's always more fabric! Also, love your floppy toppy tip!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the video and it made me think differently about wedding ring quilts. I loved the tips of using just three pins, and the ruffled piece to the top. Your quilts bring inspiration and now I would love to try making a version of your quilt. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThank-You! What a treat to watch this. I am one of those people that have said I will never do a wedding ring quilt, and yes it is because of the curves. As I watched you do this, I didn't feel afraid and I have been looking at my stash and laying out pieces that I want to experiment with some free form curves. After that, who knows.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the video and especially when you cut the piece of quilt to make new expression from. We should not be afraid to try , as it can reveal treasure. Thanks for the video, worth to see and gives immediatly the motivation to start a double wedding ring ( never done before :-) !!)
ReplyDeleteWow, you really made the curved piecing look manageable to the point that I might consider it...especially if I win your template set. I like that it's large and makes it seem less fussy. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love TQS and enjoy all the shows and the other special perks that come with membership. I'm so glad that others had the chance to see your show. I've met you in person at the Quilt Museum in Cedarburg, WI, and you are just so generous and inspiring. I really need to 'loosen up' and your encouragement to cut up a block or a quilt to make something new is what I learned/enjoyed the most. I even have a quilt top in mind that I'm going to attack!!! lol
ReplyDeleteA great, inspiring episode. You make the Double Wedding Ring quilt seem so doable!
ReplyDeleteI bought the Double Wedding Ring templates and want to try one sometime. I am more tempted to try your free formed curves. Do you recommend one before the other? Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the free Quilt Show episode. Took a class from you in MN a few years back and watching the show helped remind me how to do free form curves like your Wave Runner quilt. I also was inspired with how you cut into and added the curved corners on the quilt blocks.
