Quilt for Christmas

When we were in Seattle at Thanksgiving visiting my Stepson and granddaughter, I usually sneak off with the girls and we head up to visit LeeAnn of Nifty Quilts. This means I get to say hi to my dear friend, and the girls get to play with her lovely dog! It's a win-win! And now a yearly tradition!

Next we head over to Patricia Belyea's shop, Okan Arts. Her shop of Yukata cottons, is in the basement of her house and it's DELICIOUS! Yes, there is no better word for it. Eye Candy!! Yum!

The girls, got to try on some kimonos. This they enjoyed very much, clearly!

Patricia was so kind to answer many of our questions and even shared some pieces of cotton for all of us.

With those pieces, it was decided that the granddaughter needed a new quilt for Christmas, so off we went to Drygoods Design to pick out supporting fabrics to go with her piece of yukata cotton!

Knowing I had very little time to get this quilt together, I cut it out right away....

Working quickly is the best.  I loosen up, I play, I let go of fears and doubt and just listen with my eyes.

Her favorite color is fushia and purples, so I made sure to drop more of those colors in, and got the borders ready.

Not having enough of the yukata to do full borders on three sides, I had to supplement with one other fabric. I know she will not mind, and will love how funky it is.  The best to do on a short time frame! I love the shape the yukata makes on the edge of the quilt.

Today, I will quilt it quickly, get a binding on it and still hopefully get it to her by Christmas Day! (Thank goodness Christmas falls on a Friday this year!)

So I guess I best get out of my comfy chair and get cracking!

Happy Saturday!

  3. "...listen with my eyes"
Love this sentiment, as it captures you perfectly. I must try to do this more often.

  4. What a beauty!! Love the circles and that you have bordered just three sides of the quilt - wonderful fabrics! I should think she'll be one very happy grand-daughter.
    Happy Christmas!!
