This past weekend, we were at our house on Long Island, and we set up the Aluminum Christmas tree! Classy huh? HAHA! I have always loved having a real tree, but with steam heat in NYC, which kills the trees licktey split, and at our house if we are not there, we can't water a tree, so we went for fast and easy the last couple years. FAKE… and if you go fake, you might as well go WHITE or SILVER… right? Pink tree? maybe next. ;-)
Digging through the Christmas goodies, means pulling out christmas quilts! Above is a small quilt when I was 19 years old. Wait, wasn't that yesterday? sigh.
I pieced it on the machine, then, not knowing how to do binding, I very carefully, folded in the seam allowance and did a knife edge… I am still kind of shocked that it lays flat. (My skills were not exactly divine, then) I did however, go back and hand quilt it, not nearly enough quilting, but, it's still together, and I still love it. ;-) Memories.
More christmas quilt show and tell to come… I have made quite a few, and I'm very happy to pull them out for show and tell!

AND!
Gotta keep the give-aways GOING!!!
This weeks give away, is a for a Havels Mat and Rotary cutter.
I have these for myself and for my students. Nice size, great lines, and something fun besides green! PINK! Mat will come with a 60MM rotary cutter!
Last weeks give away flooded my email box with BURRITOS! LOL! That was kind of hilarious!
So how about this week, tell me your favorite HOLIDAY song… Any holiday, I'm not picky. ;-)
I'll leave it open until Next Monday the 23rd, and
On this one, It is for U.S. residents Only… Sorry!!!
The 60mm Rotary Cutter is perfect for both right or left hand fabric cutting. The contoured handle design and soft cushion make for remarkable comfort when gripping to cut. Also, by cupping the end of the handle in the palm of your hand, you have greater control over the device, and can hold it upright to make straighter fabric cuts. Just flip the safety switch to release the blade from the safety guard.

ReplyDeleteThe New-England Boy's Song about Thanksgiving Day also known as "Over the River and Through the Wood"....we sang it starting about Thanksgiving throughout the winter season as we headed to our grandmama's house for dinner. We lived in Georgia and rarely had snow but the thought of going to Grandmama's was enough. I miss her and my granddaddy terribly....they were farmers and my grandmother loved to sew on her treadle, do needlework. I have the white embroidered pillowcases with their white tatting that she made for her trousseau. So my grandmama didn't make those modern quilts but she did enjoy needlework and baking. You could always find a needle at her house, she tucked into the window curtains so she wouldn't lose.

I do love all the Christmas songs and sing along with everyone of them but if you want to know my favorite Holiday song of AND Holiday it would have to be "God Bless America", it makes me cry every time I hear it. It is a blessed memory any time of the year for me!

ReplyDeleteOh Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire by Nat King Cole. I don't actually know if that is the name of the song or just the first line. But that is my favorite. Thanks for the chance. Have a Very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThe Little Drummer Boy has always been my favorite Christmas song. Then this year I hear Pentatonix's a cappella version and am blown away!
ReplyDeleteGrandma got run over by a reindeer! It always makes me laugh. I'm visiting my DD in NC (800 miles from home) who now has decided she wants to learn to sew. So I'm sure I'll be leaving my mat and rotary cutter with her. I would love a new pink mat and would like to try the 60 mm rotary cutter. I saw you using one at Jackie's class a couple of weeks ago. (The class was awesome-thanks for the inspirations.)
ReplyDeleteO Holy Night! Such a beautiful song. My granddaughter's 8th birthday is in April and I am gathering sewing goodies for her. Although she lives in Texas and I am in Louisiana, somehow we will make time for her to learn to sew. Love your quilting style although it is different from my own.
