Quilting isn't FUNNY: Giveaway!

Need some HOLIDAY HUMOR in between moments of holiday panic, of
"OMG, I need to finish that gifted quilt!!!"
Then I have just the book for you and ALL YOUR QUILTER FRIENDS!

Megan Dougherty who writes at her blog:
Writer for quilters home and also Generation Q magazine

I asked Megan a few questions to learn more about her…
First,  What is her sewing space like? Neat, messy or Lost me days ago, call the search party...

- My sewing space is the most coveted room in the house and I claimed it because I'm the mom and mom has to be happy otherwise she can make chaos reign. It has big windows, 3 closets, a wall-mounted TV, and (my favorite feature) a bathroom. It is my sewing area, my writing space, and my Grand Nap Pavilion. It is generally a big, big mess, but I do a major cleaning once every couple of months. And by "cleaning," I mean "stack the plastic bins that hold everything back from biggest to smallest."

Also, I must know, How do you find your topics to write about?

- How I come up with ideas for columns: I have 2 main methods. One is to think about my own struggles and ambitions and see if there's anything there. The quilt binding tutorial came from that, as did the My Fabric Line piece. The other is to take something completely unrelated to quilting—a will, an insurance document, advice about how to talk to your teenager about sex—and see if I can turn it into something quilting-related.

Oh, and there's also the method where I pound my own head against the edge of my desk repeatedly. That's produced a couple good ones.

-Would I recommend self-publishing? Only if you really, really love living with the constant fear that you've screwed something up. I suppose that could be a plus for certain people. Actually, it can be a great way to go if you have the resources for putting it together. I'm lucky to have layout and design experience, as well as writing and editing experience.

If you didn't know, Megan is the genius behind, I had to find out how it all came to be… She says:

- My calendar (The Quilter's Shirtless Man and Spicy Burrito Calendar) grew out of a joke I once made. I said that, by working for a quilt magazine, I was able to combine two of my great loves: quilting and writing. But my dream was to combine ALL of my great loves into one publication with the Quilter's Shirtless Man and Spicy Burrito Monthly. My readers went on a hunt to find pictures of shirtless men with burritos and quilts and of course there weren't any, so they started offering to take pictures of their own men. I said that if 12 of them would do that, I would make a calendar. I got 14.

At that time, my brother was fighting brain cancer (he lost the fight in January of this year) and so I decided I wanted to make the calendar a fundraiser for his family. He loved it and I can still remember him showing off the second edition to all the nurses in the care facility where he was staying. It doesn't make much money, but I will try to keep it going for him.

Ok, that alone should make you want to run right out and buy the book.
Go now! Or scroll downy o try to WIN a copy!

- It is completely self-published.

- It is comprised of her humor columns from Quilter's Home Magazine,
from Generation Q, and from her own blog, and also has two never-before-seen pieces.  !! ;-)

  3. Oh, such an easy question. The Green Chili burrito from Adolfo's in Lake Forest, CA. On my last visit to California I brought two home in my carry-on--my only "souvenirs" of the trip, and was prepared to share one with my sweetheart. (That's true love.) I can barely describe my devastation when I took the first bite and found they'd made a mistake and given me a chicken burrito. I'm a vegetarian. I wept. True story.
