ReplyDeleteYes! I found my Santa block! Such a gorgeous quilt, and a thrill to see it put to use.
ReplyDeleteTurkey with cranberry sauce and gravy is pretty awesome stuff, but fave Thanksgiving dish has to be pumpkin pie: after the turkey; as a midnight snack; makes a lovely breakfast; and just another little slice (is there any whipped cream/ice cream left?). Yup, I'd better bake two.

SNATA block? LOL! It would not be Thanksgiving at our house without Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish. Every year on the Friday before Thanksgiving Susan Stamberg 'delivers' the recipe on Morning Edition (NPR). My own tradition is to pull out the written recipe, jotted down by a colleague on the back of a catalog card (back when we worked in a library that had a paper catalog). Here is a link to the archived broadcasts: http://www.npr.org/series/4175681/susan-stamberg-s-cranberry-relish-tradition

My mother's sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes, heated thru and drained, lots of butter, sugar, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, then top with marshmallows (toast the marshmallows). My oldest son calls these his 'dessert' veggie. He will only eat a few veggies ever (and he's 23). Happy Thanksgiving!

Going back east on Sunday, you will feel like you lost a whole day! Our family is fleeing Seattle for Canada, where, alas, we won't have Thanksgiving yumminess. BUT we will have a potluck with the extended family with amazing food, so I don't feel too deprived.

ReplyDeleteHands down favorite during the holidays. For those non-Norwegians, it's a dry flat potato tortilla as thin almost as phyllo.... eaten cold, rolled up as a conveyance for butter Some unappreciative folks (Germans mostly, in my family) thing it's akin to buttering a napkin. They just don't appreciate the finer things!
