WOW! It feels nice to have a nice clean studio space at my house! Why did I leave my space for so long, so boring? LOL! Now It's clean, reorganized and fresh! Check out my daughter's child size play table above right... I covered it with batting and fabric and I have a new iron table low, so I can sit, sew, and iron all in one go... YAY!!! Finding old pieces of furniture that we are not using, and repurposing them has worked nicely for me! If you look way down below where my long arm is, I took the old bookcase that was in my studio, and put it there for my thread etc... and above that. I had an open hanging book rack from Beatrice's nursery, still in storage, so I hung it up and use it as a way to hang quilts!
Where my long arm sits, is a room that leads to my garage, so no windows...I try to keep it bright an fun with colors, so it does not feel to dismal down there... In the summer, I will be able to leave the door open, and have a view out into the yard through the garage... better then nothing!
Still getting stuff in order, and have not had time to play on my machine yet... I still have to order stuff before I can actually sew on it.. Looks like JUne before I will try it out! Oh well... It's there waiting for me...I think she needs a name... Whatever shall I call it? I just called it a she, so that's a start!
What area of your sewing space do you like the most?
You are blessed with all your sewing abilities, opportunities, and sewing rooms/space...but you also earn it with your full and busy life! I love seeing what you create~! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteI am coveting that red sink base! It would really brighten my dye studio.
ReplyDeleteyour space looks great. It is so nice to have everything and order so you can find whatever you need.
ReplyDeleteYou will love having a long arm machine to do your own quilting. I notice the rug you put near it. I have some of those puzzle looking pads that you put on the floor in play rooms for kids. I hooked 4 together to put in front of my quilt rack and it is great to have to walk on when I spend a long time quilting!
I love to repurpose old furniture and rooms, as well! Tho I have bedrooms that are no longer occupied, I still prefer to sew in my dining room. I use my husband's old baby chest to store thread, rulers, etc. And my china cabinet is full of fabric. My bookcases hold CD's, quilt books and file folders with patterns. My wicker laundry basket is full of scraps. I now want to cover my son's old play table for ironing, thank you very much for that idea. But if I ever get a long arm, it will happily occupy my living room . . .
ReplyDeletelove the ironing table,i've yet to figure out a easy ironing arrangement in my little space. Fuzzy Marie is my name entry for your new mochine.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great, I really need to clean my room out.

What fun you are going to have with your spiffed up studio AND longarm out by the beach!
ReplyDeleteThe studio looks great! That was a big job! My favorite sewing space is my fabric storage room. I live in a four bedroom house by myself and have a newly painted and updated bedroom just for my sewing supplies. I have metal shelving that I have bought new and some at yard sales to stack all my fabric and places for my quilting thread and other supplies. Bins are labeled with their contents and the closet has yardage hanging and shelves with finished quilts. This room is just a short walk from my sewing studio. I don't have any place in my studio for my fabrics and supplies.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! You've got some great quilts on the walls. Very inspiring space!
ReplyDeleteYour studio looks lovely, great red cabinet, great light. My sewing area is in the middle of the living room. I love, and use daily is my IKEA table top ironing board, $4.99. Has 5" flip out legs. Great for taking to a sew day at the church.
ReplyDeleteI like the figurines. A woman after my own heart! Everything looks nice and cheery. The red cabinet should give you a constant jolt of energy!
ReplyDeleteI like all of it except the fabric storage. I need to rethink that and come up with something a little better. My stash is exceeding my space, do you think that could be the problem? lol! 2 suggestions from one long arm quilter to another: consider an adjustable height saddle stool for working on smaller spaces/one block at time from the front. Get the more expensive one, got mine through Amazon.com. Backless, armless, metal ring for a foot rest, height adjustment and seat tilt adjustment. Made such a difference for me in terms of fatigue and sore feet after standing for hours. Also padding for your floor where you'll be walking in front and back of the machine. I have carpet, carpet padding, and a heavy area rug. Maybe one of the gel kitchen runners for your wooden floors.
ReplyDeleteLove your studio redo!! I need to have a little ironing table next to my machine. I know you will love your longarm when you have time!!!
ReplyDeleteFave place in my sewing room? The daybed/couch where I lounge with a mug of coffee (or a glass of wine, if its the end of the day) and contemplate the design wall.
ReplyDeleteSo your longarm is definitely a she? I say name her after your grandmother!
ReplyDeleteMy fabric spot in my studio is the big shelf that holds the fabric. Tons of color! Tons of inspiration!
Your sewing room looks great, love the red.
ReplyDeleteMy sewing/crafting room is currently housed in a spare guest room, which is okay. But, my husband is renovating our downstairs, which will be a combination sewing room/ family room. I love being in the midst of things rather than off by myself. Plus, it will have a lot more light. Whooha!
Getting organized feels great! It is always so frustrating when I can't find something that I KNOW I have. My long arm machine was too big to get up the stairs, so it now resides in the room formerly known as our dining room. I love having it there, it is set up so I can look out the windows at my yard, and I'm close to the kitchen & family room where most of the action is. I hung up a peg board organizer for tools, and have two big thread holders for my favorite threads.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space! How much fun will it be to be sewing there over the summer?!! Shame you can't make a tunnel between the studio and the long arm room!
ReplyDeleteLooking fabulous!!! You'll be turning out beautiful things soon!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's really coming together! I admire the speed at which you were able to sort the space out. It looks so great and I bet you can't wait till summer now! : )
ReplyDeleteDid you happen to see the Sanford Wurmfeld exhibit at Hunter College/Times Square Gallery?
I wish I were in NYC I would go see it.
the space is amazing now!! GREAT job!! I love naming things... Should 'she' have a pretty oldfashioned name? Like Rose? Or names for a grandma or favorite relative on your tree?
ReplyDeleteI love my 2 ft. x 4 ft. ironing table and my corner sewing table. Now if I will just keep these surfaces cleared of clutter! I also love the quilts and pretty stuff I have hanging on the walls.
ReplyDeletehi Victoria
ReplyDeleteJean had it "sew" right---no doubt in my mind the long arm is screaming your gram's name. Although a long arm would probably not be her style, I know she would cheer you on and Relish how far you have come in your quilting journey.
will e-mail info on the historical society!
Happy stitchin'
Renee
love the little iron table... if you want to make it a bit taller - the back and all - you could add "risers" that are sold for beds - more storage under the bed is the purpose, but in this house it is higher iron/cutting table, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove the red re-purposed counter/sink.
ReplyDeleteI've been working on my sewing room, re-organizing and having a more organized space makes me want to go sew!
My favorite place in the room is behind the machine...it means I have some relaxing time to just play....
Some days I feel that my sewing room is too small and crowded to enjoy, other days I cannot wait to get down there. My favorite part would be all the opportunities that it holds
ReplyDeleteThis is a great space - one question, where do you cut out your material? I'm still doing that on the dining room table :-(
ReplyDeleteTotally loving the red! Oh, yeah, and I'm itching for spring, too. I gotta tell ya....I'm depressed by the cold/wet weather.
ReplyDeletenice space!
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you on your Juki sewing machine - what kind of thread do you recommend for it and do you use the same in the bobbin as you use on the top - I just got one and looking for input :)
My sewing space is a room in the basement. There are no windows but its mine and I don't have to share it with anyone else in my crowded house so that makes me very, very, very happy.
