OK, Here's a quilt for those of you have have read my blog for a long time... Anyone remember this one?
This quilt started as a MINI quilt... Yes. MINI... It was meant to just be the center mini stars... You can see the OLD posts here to see how this quilt grew.
Then I found that great bird fabric, then some 9 patches came into play.... next a star grew.... added some paper pieced little birds... I had then thought I'd stop at a lap quilt. When I started adding Amish Buggy Blocks around the outside... from there it went into my storage bins... I lost my steam.
Every once in a while I would pull it out, look at it, Nothing... back into the bin it went, until I packed it to bring to my house to finish. I put it up yesterday to look at it, and then... A little of this, and a little of that. ( Mom got the hang of using my camera... ;-)
Happy with those movements, I decided why stop there...
The border choice was obvious. I chose three to look at, but I knew right away that I would be MITERING the corners of this yellow and brown stripe....
Sigh.
It was meant to be a mini quilt, and it became a KING.
Anyone surprised?
No?
LOL.
I'm thinking this Kaffe Blue/green will look fabulous on the back...
Another one for the "to be QUILTED" pile.
Its absolutely gorgeous Victoria and woot woot its done!! If you need a home for it, Im your girl! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh that is such a gorgeous star!! ANd I love that Kaffe for the back -- it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI just recently discovered your blog and it is great inspiration for me (a very beginning quilter)! Thanks!
I love it. Very pretty, very you. Great job. :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Victoria. Gorgeous quilt as usual. Besides the beautiful and unusual bird fabric, I really like the use of the brown plaid and the stripes. Also the Eagle quilt is stunning. Well worth the time investment.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
Who knows why those little light bulb moments sometimes take so long to happen, but what a thrill when they finally do. That last border of yours make the rest of the top sing!
ReplyDeleteOH MY I just love this quilt, love the nine patches you added, love the little details you see once you get past the graphic design , its incredible.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that bird fabric , I need that fabric whose is it???
you real ly do need a lesson on how to make little quilts. took me awhile 80 x 80 used to be my small size!
LOL

Instead of Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. How does your garden grow? It's V, V Quilting Fairy. How does your mini quilt grow? It's fantastic and that striped border is genius.

Happy Sewing
wow! what an awesome quilt! if it's the same mini pattern from I think fons and porter a few years ago, I've made that into table toppers quite a few times, I think the tips of the stars were 1"... this is amazing what you've done!!
ReplyDeleteI always love to follow your process - it's amazing. This one will be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt "steeped" in that storage bin just long enough to become an amazing beauty!!! I'm not in the least bit surprised (because of your talent) and LOVE the end result.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that I am leaving 2 comments in a row on this blog. I just had to this time, you have out done yourself with this quilt. It is perfect.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to watch your process on this quilt! I love the mitered, striped border. Will you quilt a quilt this large on your home machine? Any secrets?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish! Some projects need to simmer for awhile. The quilt is lovely...
ReplyDeleteI do love your process posts. This is an ideal one, from mini to large. One of the secrets seems to be using larger pieces of fabric here and there as well as the smaller patch pieces. Great work with different and interesting mix of colours and patterns. You look as if you are having an idyllic sewing summer.
ReplyDeleteStarbirds on Steroids???
ReplyDeleteOh I remember this beauty! I love the borders you picked. Not surprised it became a king! Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all! Fun to see how this grew up. Love that striped border.
ReplyDeleteWell done! It obviously didn't want to be a mini.
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious! Of course it turned into a KING! That's so you . . .
ReplyDeleteJust another day in the life of brilliant Victoria. Well done! It is so YOU!
ReplyDeleteTruly another "star" of a quilt! What fun!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! One of my faves. I do remember that bird fabric.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is going to be wonderful! I know about how small quilts grow - I do the same thing! The MQG I belong to is having a challange. They gave each of us a 10" x 10" square of fabric to make something out of. Thank goodness they put a size limit on it or I would turn that 10" square into a queen sized quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you recorded your process. The old posts journey was a glimps into your process. Thanks for sharing your vision!!
ReplyDeleteThe completed quilt is "real Beaute Mate" as they say Down Under. Keep Smiling
I agree that stripe is an excellent choice for the border- just looks like it was meant to be.
ReplyDeleteOh, Victoria, I LOVE this one. It looks old and new all at once. Thank you for sharing how it came about. It's so helpful for those of us still looking for our voice.
ReplyDeleteOh, Victoria, it is so great! I love that big old star in the center and all the little details. you are amazing that you can put this all together like that. I really struggle with that.
ReplyDeleteI remember this one! And no, not surprised to see it become a King. Aren't they all? Or nearly all?
ReplyDeleteI love the edging to this quilt!!! It really sets it off well~ ♥
