from nikita's dad: i never encountered a black (i.e. hollow) olive as a child. as a montessori teacher i try to teach kids the "right" way of doing things, after a child in my class stuck olives on all ten fingers and proudly proclaimed, "finger puppets!" i accepted that the urge to do that is perfectly human. as the picture depicts, i think "playing with food" is acceptable as long as one is still also eating.
