Beautiful work.

I wanted to share with you a very special set of quilts that are in the mail now, for the Parent Infant program... Jennifer H. sent me the info behind the two quilts coming from Switzerland for the Basics project!

Students researched homes and shelters from around the world. With help from parents they each built a model home:
We researched and discussed why some people don't have a home: lack of money, war, natural disasters.

As an action project, we made two twin size quilts for Child & Family Institute. Thanks Victoria for organizing this project!

Templates were made of the Yellow Brick Road pattern by Atkinson Designs. Students each designed two blocks.  There was a music quilt and a beach quilt. Blocks were sewn together in the classroom.

Thank you so much Jennifer,(and your students!) for sharing your students and their work!
I love that quilting  and sharing has reached these kids,

...and I wonder if any more of you peeps have taken to the school to teach kids to sew?  Great stories here... Please share your experiences.

Have a GREAT Memorial weekend!

  8. yes, but perhaps I was a little ambitious. I did it years ago when my eldest daughter was in grade 2 and their special ed teacher was leaving. I had each child trace around their hand on fabric, but it out, then hand sew it on to a block. Fun, yes, but oh boy! what a challenge. I had fabric sew onto uniforms, blocks completely pulled tight, knot upon knot, you name it. But we sorted it and it was a great project and the teacher was in tears she loved it that much! Your projects are just gorgeous!
