SILKS DONE!

My Silk Kitchen Sink quilt 2011 is finally together!  It's 80" X 88" now.  It's hanging funny on my design wall, as it does not STICK to it like cotton does... I contemplated adding another border around, but decided I like it in true edge to edge form.  The colors make me so happy.

So... I know I've had some really ncie emails about people liking the videos, but I'm wondering if all the other visitors I get each day are watching the video or just the post..So I put a VOTE thingy in the side bar, would you all mind putting in your vote, If I should keep doing the videos or not?

I'm finding them fun to do,but if many of you are not watching them, then I'll go back to more posts... Just was feeling like it was time to change the pace...

So please vote, it's all anonymous... Thanks!

Happy Birthday to my Late Grandmother Elda Wolfe, whom would have been 94 today. The fabulous woman who taught me what I know about quilting...

  1. I really do love the videos...of course I need to learn to read lips...hahaha. Sometimes I use an external speaker and when it's removed, I lose the 'sound'...like now. But it was still fun to watch and I just 'imagined' what you were saying...hahahaha. Seriously, I'll plug in tomorrow, watch and listen for real.

  4. Love the videos and the post and I am very grateful for the time you give up to do this. I appreciate it very much and I hope that at a minimum you do a video with a little post...
Even my daughter (13yrs) watches and loved when you had Jenny Egg on...
Maybe one day Boo can come and show us one of her sewing projects!
    Thanks so much

  8. I was finally able to vote -the thing is the sidebar doesn't show up for mobile users.

The silk quilt looks great. I, too, have trouble cutting up some fabric because it is too beautiful. I am working on that issue.

I love your Grandmother's pillow. That is such a great thing to have.

  9. Thanks for all the inspiration you send our way! I am thankful for your grandmother and all she taught you. I also learned so much from my grandma, and think fondly of her every day,
Victoria, I feel like I'm getting to know you through your blog and want you to do whatever makes your life better...love,love,love your quilting style. I grew up on a farm, and grandma lived through the Great Depression...I feel like quilting was all about using and reusing what you had. My great grandmother saved "egg money" to buy fabric for "special" quilts. They were not the norm.
Don't get me wrong,I love my LQS and all the beautiful fabrics out there!
    Thanks again!

  10. The kimono silk Mary gave you is beautiful! I can understand how you are having a hard time using it because I have two rolls - about 9 yards - of silk kimono fabric that I bought at an auction years ago and have not used it either. Mine is colbalt blue with silver and black images of huts. I voted a yes for the videos! They have taken your posts to a wonderful personal level!

  11. Perhaps a mix of video and written posts will be your final answer. I find that the videos take me much longer to watch than going through a written post. Because of the number of blogs I follow, I use the National Geo Reading Technique - you know, look at the pictures on a blog and if they capture my interest, stop and read the details.

  12. great finish on the silks. I'm not a big fan of videos on blogs unless they're very short (under 2 minutes.)

  13. I love the silk quilt and I love the videos. My vote went in. Sure hope you keep them!

  14. I just loved your story about your Grandmother; my Grand'mere taught me how to sew and knit...she was amazing, too. She made men's shirts for her husband and sons and even jackets!! I cannot say that I am anywhere near as talented a sewer as she was, but she instilled in me a love of fabrics and color. Please, please continue with your videos--I, for one, just really look forward to them...Thank you, Julierose

  15. Re voting / videos: I voted but wanted to follow up with the thought that many of us take 3-4 minute brain breaks during the work day to visit a blog or two. Watching a video when your desk is in the wide open for all to see/hear is not realistic. Not being able to watch/listen makes me feel like I'm missing out on a lot . . .

  16. It is nice to put a voice to a person. I love your videos and your creativity!

  17. I would take that roll of silk and border it with a solid and make an "obi" table runner. It's gorgeous!!!!

  18. Lovely tribute to your grandmother! The silk quilt is beautiful and looks great borderless. I have a box of vintage kimonos that my brother sent me from Japan. After seeing this latest work maybe it is time for them to see the light of day. That fabric Mary gave you is gorgeous and would look great as a single stripe!

  19. I love your videos, Victoria, and also love your posts. I would like a fourth option, sometimes videos and sometimes posts, but really, whatever you have time to do is appreciated very much.

  20. Lovely quilt, lovely tribute to your grandmother (missing my own today, thinking of her quilty influence on me). Agree with the table-runner suggestion for the lovely silk, or maybe two big squooshy pillows?

  21. Happy Birthday to your Grandmother Ms. Wolfe!!! She must be so proud of the pretty designs you are putting out today.

I just wanted to make a comment in regards to your video question, and I hope this doesnt get taken the wrong way. So here goes:

When I first found your blog I couldnt figure out your personality, and your style doesnt exactly match my style. Once you started posted these videos I really can get a feel for how authentic and genuine you are and how much your love of quilting comes out (explains a lot knowing it was something of a personal interest to you and your grandmother) I love the videos and do hope you'll keep doing them. You've inspired me to go from patterned/template only work to just "going with the flow" So far so good!

  22. Nice video. Issues here in FL with internet speed, so it stops quite a few times to catch up.
The artist needs to choose her "ingredients" for each project!
Glad you like the silk - use it however you enjoy it most!

  23. There is not a vote for my preference which is a video about once a week. I look at the blog every time you post but don't always have time for the video. But I do like the ones I watch.

  24. I really can't take the time to watch the videos, but I like your blog and all the things you do. I bought your book as a Christmas present to myself. I have a lot of scraps that have been gifted to me. I've followed Bonnie Hunter's blog and have made a queen size quilt with her crumbs ideas. Your book has given me many more ideas.

  25. Hi Victoria
So nice to honor your grandma, and speak so,highly of her. Your affection for her shows in your passion for quilting, and in your video blog. Speaking of video blog----Please,Please Please keep the video going as well as the written blog---I love both, and look so forward to your reading the posts and seeing the videos. You might not believe this---but When I check my e-mail----yours is the first one I look for!! and the one I enjoy the most. I have told you this numerous times before I love your style of quilting, your use of color, and your cool sense of "self" in knowing who you are. I'm only one little quilter who loves the whole process , and joy of creating with this fabulous thing called FABRIC, but let it be known Victoria, you are my inspiration to keep exploring ,to keep creating, and mostly to feel proud of what I create and not be afraid to try something new!
Thanks for taking so much time to blog, and video chat---for whatever it's worth this little quilter is really enjoying it!
    Keep stitchin'

  28. It's beautiful! My grandma would have been about the same age... I guess in April this year she would have turned 94 but she passed away in 1992. Anyway she helped me make my first quilt when I was in 8th grade, from, you guessed it, double knit polyester. I'll have to get pictures of her bright satin crazy quilt next time I see my parents. I love it.

I like the videos and regular posts, too.

  29. Gorgeous silks and the quilt is fabulous!! How about making some pillowcases with the roll of silk and if there's enough left a few small scatter cushions?? You can never have enough pillows/cushions on the bed!! LOL!!!

  30. The silk quilt is fantastic! I would use the "Mary" silk as a border or in a cross piece on the back.
Love the videos! So interesting to hear your voice after so many years of following your blog.
