SANTA WHOOP WHOOP!

Finally!  It's done! The 2012 Santa "Kitchen Sink" quilt!
Why Kitchen sink?  Because I made a quilt in 2009 from all my orphan blocks and called it my *Everything But The Kitchen Sink quilt, and every year since, I make...ONE of these kind of quilts.
I'm flattered when I see people running with the idea and see people calling their quilt the same thing, or a Kitchen sink quilt...  Please send me your photos if you've made one...

(*yep, that's my quilt)

90" X 100"

Here are all the Fabulous Santas you all sent to me! Everyone I rcvd back, was put into this quilt...Can you spot your block? It was incredibly hard to get a photograph of this on my design wall.. I was standing on my window ledge!
Once I get it quilted and trimmed, I will get a better shot of it!  I'm so excited I got the quilt done as close to the year I made it! LOL! Unlike my 2011 version in silk which still hangs on the hanger...This is the year I get that one done too!

...I'm soooo, doing the HAPPY DaNcE over here...
HO HO HO!

Here's a recap of my past "KITCHEN SINK" quilts

2009 Everything But the Kitchen Sink
This quilt included 10 years of quilt making  filled with everything from baby quilts never finished to the dishtowels from my kitchen.. Hence the name! (embroidered hand towel of Cherries top center.)
OLD posts about this quilt are here

 2010 Ragamuffin "Kitchen Sink" quilt
Ragamuffin was another compilation of my orphans and orphan blocks from many of you peeps!
This quilt was sold this year and has found a new home.

OLD posts about the Ragamuffin quilt are here

and lastly, the 2011 Silk "Kitchen Sink" quilt,  is still on the hanger...
in the parts department... Sad face!

It might be time to get this done... Do you think?

These quilts started because of the way my grandmother quilted. This above, (bottom section of the Everything but the kitchen sink quilt) was my first attempt to make a quilt like hers, but using cotton instead of what she used...Double knit! (below) I attempted to machine applique fabrics like her hand work, and got so bored with it, that I out it away for 10 years, before I  pulled it out and stared just sewing my scraps together my own way.

Isn't it fun to see where inspiration comes from?

  18. So fun to see the Santas done (yay, stunning!), and the rest of the Kitchen Sink clan.

Will have to direct my sister to this post so she'll know what I was talking about when I recommended yesterday that she make a Kitchen Sink quilt "like Victoria's" from all her orphans and extras.

And I'm busily empting a bin of my own to be labelled "into the sink," for random saved whatevers and future kitchen-y goodness.

  19. Your quilts are always so full of energy and life. I liked your idea of the Kitchen Sink when I first saw you talk about. Since then I have been collecting orphan blocks and "bits & bobs" that are living together in a box exclusively for use in a kitchen sink quilt. Just hoping mine can end up looking as cool as one of yours!!

  20. a couple of years ago I took a Kitchen Sink Quilt class. I decided to make mine into a jacket. I am still working on it. It is all pieced, it is in the quilting stage. I am hoping to finish it this winter. I love the idea and I love your Kitchen Sink quilts.

  21. I've learned from you, Tonya, and others in Blogland that it's OK to "do it my way", and that's what gives me joy. It takes some time to figure out what "my way" is.. thanks for your help with this self-discovery process!

  24. These quilts are so amazing. The Santa quilt is fabulous, with all the colour and Santas, and the way you have fitted all the blocks together. Your kitchen sink quilts are so inspiring -start with small pieces and then make something bigger - now there's a thought to run with.

  26. I made a orphan block quilt out of my Mom's blocks after she died. I joined all the blocks together with neutral piecing so Mom's blocks stood out. I may have a picture somewhere. It was one of the family raffle Xmas quilts, but I couldn't tell you which one of my siblings won it. I think the Kitchen Sink quilts tell a big story and are very cool!
