Good-bye My Fancy

"Good-bye My Fancy"
73" X 74"
pieced, machine quilted and embroidered by Victoria Findlay Wolfe

These blocks were made from the BLOCKS of the MONTH  at 15minutesplay.com

Members and myself, contributed block tutorials using  my "Made Fabric"
over the course of the summer.
I will be revealing all the other quilts made by members, later on Wednesday.
The tutorials are there for all to play with.
I had so much fun playing with these blocks.

If you wonder about the name,
I name most of my quilts after lines from poems of some sort.
For instance, I was thinking about, SAMPLERS,
which made me think about "Whitman samplers"
(a box of chocolates, for those who don't know them, )
which made me think of Walt Whitman,
and his poem,

Good-Bye My Fancy!
by Walt Whitman
(1819-1892)

Good-bye my Fancy!
Farewell dear mate, dear love!
I'm going away, I know not where,
Or to what fortune, or whether I may ever see you again,
So Good-bye my Fancy.
Now for my last--let me look back a moment;
The slower fainter ticking of the clock is in me,
Exit, nightfall, and soon the heart-thud stopping.
Long have we lived, joy'd, caress'd together;
Delightful!--now separation--Good-bye my Fancy.
Yet let me not be too hasty,
Long indeed have we lived, slept, filter'd, become really blended
into one;
Then if we die we die together, (yes, we'll remain one,)
If we go anywhere we'll go together to meet what happens,
May-be we'll be better off and blither, and learn something,
May-be it is yourself now really ushering me to the true songs, (who
knows?)
May-be it is you the mortal knob really undoing, turning--so now finally,
Good-bye--and hail! my Fancy.

See?  Now it seems so obvious, right?
Long have I been with this quilt, and now at last it's done.
How utterly romantic huh?

haha!

  8. Wonderful poem, wonderful quilt!!! Prettiest sampler I've ever seen. The bold blue and gold, the daisy chain and feathers, and even a "V" block. So romantic that it tugs at my heart.

  9. Like your wide border solution, with the extra feather forms in voids from the major feather. Graceful solution.
