weekend snooze.

It's a beautiful fall day here on Long Island... We drove out to our house last night, and had a very quiet peaceful sleep!  We have that building going up behind us in NYC, and work on our building itself, so it has been so noisy from 6 am til 3pm every day...  What's wrong with normal hours like 9-5? Jack hammering at 6:30 a.m. is not a nice wake up call...

I'm sitting with the doors open, binding, with the quilt draped over me as it's still a bit to chilly to be sitting outside... It's so cozy, I think I will stay here all day long, under a mountain of polka dots. ;-)
Due to the hurricane back in August I missed having time to CAN the 300 pounds of tomatoes I usually do every year...(I'm still dealing with how I will get through the winter without my canned tomatoes, sob sob) sniffle) So this is my consolation prize... Vegetable broth...  Got my pressure canner ready to go... yum! The house smells so good. Now I just need a fire in the fire place and we're good to go!
Jenny Egg is enjoying some time in the sun too. I guess that's the same as being snuggled under a king sized quilt in dog world. ;-) Enjoy the weekend!  Are you cooking anything yummy at your house today?

  2. Blueberry muffins are in the oven. As soon as they come out, fresh bread for lunch will go in! I love to bake when the weather is cool like this (65 - 70).

  3. What could be better than patchwork, vegetable soup and a fire in the fire place? Not much. I'm just back from an Embroiders' Guild meeting and The Man has made kaleks (kale and cheese in a puff pastry) (our version of boreks) with vegetables from the garden and a chocolate pudding to follow, my favourite meal.

  5. Love the polka dots! Tomorrow a turkey is going in the oven, and that will result in many meals along with soup and a pan of turkey enchilada's. I hear you are heading west next month? How long are you out here for?

  7. Hooray for putting the binding on, and for peaceful nights and canning!! Haven't canned a thing this year (ok, maybe a little jam and some applesauce - but that hardly counts!). Making banana chocolate chip muffins today and then out to tidy up the garden before the snow flies tomorrow.

  8. Beautiful quilt! I can imagine the peace that you so readily need at the moment. There's a hint of a nip in the air as Autumn creeps in...a HUGE spaghetti bolognase simmering on the stove as I wait for my 5 grandaughters to descend on us ...any minute...now!

  10. No cooking, just painting the floor in the sewing room. Last weekend it was the walls. For the first time in 30 years the room is ONE white....

72 hours and I can start putting furniture in and then...... the fabric.... sad face as I will be getting rid of fabric.... new goal is ONE room for sewing.....

  18. ***THREE HUNDRED POUNDS***!!?? Wow Victoria, that is some serious tomato canning! Where do you get them all? Alas, here on the Pacific Northwest coast, we are lucky to get green tomatoes at the end of the summer!

Next year I will trade you a bottle of my brandies peaches for your canned tomatoes!

  19. What kind of dog is Jenny Egg? Looks a bit Schnauzer-ish to me.

I roasted my first pumpkin of the season this evening.
We love eating it with a bit of butter, salt, and pepper, sort of like potatoes (only better). Fish in lemon & mushroom sauce, and that was dinner.
