studio cleaning....

You can see that the building out my window is now above us...
We are on the 8th floor, they are working on the 10th floor... They do about a
floor and a half a week.... Amazing.

I cruised along getting my studio clean(er) today... It's still not perfect, but it's
getting there...I have a huge hand quilting frame leaning up against my windows.
I was going to move it behind the fabric shelves so you
wouldnt' see it, But I use the light from the frame to light my desk!
Well, for now anyway... until I solve the lighting issues...

I pulled 5 bins of stuff out of here...
I still have to many bins of projects started, quilt tops that need quilting, and fabric...
And half my fabric I still at my house out of the city
I'm thinking I may leave it here!
I left all my ugly fabric here.. so maybe I will use it up first... LOL!
My sewing table now has a little table under it for cutting so I don't have to get up and run
to the BIG cutting table. My ironing table sits on the other side of me...  This is working really well...

I found a box of orange fabrics in a bin I must have pulled for a project...
Can't recall now...
But boy, they would be fun to cut up right now...
RESTRAIN!!!!
Orange IS my favorite color...  How about you?
What's your favorite color?

One big BOX for BASICS.  11 quilts are ready to ship out...
This sure gives me a little bit more room in here!!

Do you have some great tip that you did in your sewing space
that  we all might benefit from hearing?

  1. I've been ruthless lately -- and I got rid of three big bag of scraps and a set of blocks by taking them to my guild meeting. they all went home with new owners. It's hard to stay on top of everything, but it is good to purge occasionally.

  3. Looking fun, V! Too bad about your new neighbor blocking your light. Orange is my favorite color too.

  4. I love orange too. I have to control myself not to use it all the time. I ordered a new chair the other day and will be an orange print. I have been doing some organizing and I bought a small table from Overstock for my machine. I love it and I can move it around. The height of the table is adjustable and I really like that.

  5. I love red! I love it in my home, in my quilts, and in clothing. You have a wonderful studio space - quite large and I love the windows!

  6. Using the comic book backerboards really helped me to organize my fabric by color. it makes them look like books on a shelf. My little 13 x 12 room is packed but if I stay on top of cleaning up after each project I manage to stay organized. Your studio is looking great. a nice large space!

  7. Love the orange/cheddar and bright blue blocks. More about it please. Your ironing board/surface could be on top of a chest of drawers or book case to give you storage under the ironing surface. Just a thought.

  8. Lime green, but it doesn't go with any part of the decor of my house. My house is very earthy with spots of denim blue - calm.

  14. We are such Soul Sisters, Victoria! Just looking at your studio...we have roughly the same square footage, the same plethora of supplies, the same overload of ideas versus disposable time, even the same impact of the views out the big windows (although my view has trees, yours has buildings; both are equally inspiring.) And we both work hard with the time we have!
I went to Costco yesterday to buy shelving and plastic bins (two sizes of them) to help revamp my own sewing space. I'll have to empty out the entire room to rework it, but I will be as glad as you are to have it reorganized and way more efficient for "doing the work". It's going to get ugly before it gets pretty....
Thanks for giving us a looksee into your space.... ;-) a

  17. I can never decide on a favorite color. I told my 4 year old grand daughter that and she agreed. Now, she asks me what's my favorite color...it's always different and, guess what! Her's is always the same as mine!

  18. Somehow my cutting table is a magnet for stuff. It just appears practically out of nowhere. Well, OK, sometimes it's part of a project and doesn't quite get put away where it belongs. But sometimes it stays out because I have a plan for it....that I then forget about.

  19. Orange, orange, orange and then purple.
I love that your studio looks like a real person works and creates there. I find it hard to create in a vacuum, you need stuff around don't you.
One day I too want a big studio, but for now I'm making mine work and am comfortable where I am. I would love a raised cutting table though, I assume it makes cutting less of a strain on your back and shoulders.
