Moment of Silence

The quilt holds extra special memories for us,
As my Stepson's godmother was on Flight 11...

  2. Thank you for the remembrance. I think most of the US will forget today. When I taught public school art, I always played audio testimonies of that day, used visuals, and we made Artist Trading Cards as remembrances of the real people of that day. I saw that quilt and it is powerful.

  6. As a former AA flight attendant and an airline pilot's wife, it's a hard day in so many ways. I'm sorry for your loss. Hugs.

  7. I don't think anyone who is old enough to have experienced 9/11 can ever forget. It certainly was the strangest and scariest experience of my life. I didn't know any of the people who died that day, but the sense of the whole country being shook up and totally focused of the horrible events, while the government grabbed with trying to figure out what exactly had happened, who had done it, how it had been done, who had died, and what we would do about it, was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. I felt a communal sense of depression, but also numbness as I was glued to the television watching those planes flying into the World Trade Center over and over and over for about a week. I visited the 9/11 memorial earlier this year and was very impressed with much of the art work, especially the quilt. Definitely the largest quilt I've ever seen! I'm not counting the AIDS quilt as the pieces of it are not actually connected. This is actually one big, HUGE quilt. Very creatively designed.

  9. I was thinking about you and my first trip to NYC in 2003 and then again in 2011 and was telling my guy about seeing this quilt and how emotional is was that I had to leave the room as the tears just overwhelmed me and remembering you had a dear person included in this emotional piece of history. A day never to be forgotten.

  10. I'm sorry to hear you lost someone on that horrible day. I remember the last time I was in NYC, when we got to meet up. I had gone down to ground zero and they were still clearing things out. It was certainly a day to remember. Very emotional.
