Beatrice and I are heading out next Saturday to drive to Texas! We will drive to Chattanooga first, down I81... Anyone know anything I should see on the way between NYC and Chattanooga? Perhaps a place to stop half way to stay over... Like Abingdon or, swing though Johnson City? then come through Asheville, and then over to Chattanooga? I figure as long as we are driving we want to see all the good stuff!
Quiltshops, lovely places to eat... etc..
Thanks for all your comments! The conversation helps me write these posts!
What a beautiful start. I thought I was the only one that still had any stash left!!
ReplyDeleteALways enjoy visiting your blog. Thanks for the tour of your R and R studio. Glad to see you are enjoying yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie!! Got my feet up! ;-)
DeleteTwo suggestions:
ReplyDelete1. Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, VA. Information can be found at http://www.vaquiltmuseum.org/
2. There is a great quilt shop in Wythville, VA called Batiks Etcetera & Sew What Fabrics. You can see about them on their website at http://www.batiks.com/
3. You can always look for VA quilt shops at: vcq.org.
Have fun!
Thank you so much!! I'm looking forward to the trip!
DeleteThank you for your tour. You have a lovely place to be creative. The new project looks very interesting.Soft pink with the strong black and then the flowers. Daring and fresh.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think it's sweet, too!
DeleteYay! Video! Love the pink/black/floral in progress! If you've never driven the Blue Ridge Mt Pkwy which runs parallel to I81, consider it ... gorgeous but slower. Have you been to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home? Wonderful! You could spend the night in Charlottesville. The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford is something worth visiting, too.
ReplyDeleteooh! Great stuff! Great ideas! Thanks Margaret! I have not been through that side of VA etc... So I'm looking forward to it!
DeleteLove the new long hexie quilt! Very sweet! And happy to see your messy studio! Looks like you are having fun in there. Have a wonderful trip and can't wait to see where you and Beatrice go!
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria, thanks for letting us see into your 'real' world, I don't feel so bad that my workspace is a mess!
ReplyDeleteLoving the new quilt on your design wall. Hope you have a great road trip with your fabulous daughter.
Hope you are ok, you seem tired and sad. Hugs from me over here in the UK. x
RELAXED, Would be what you see! Being at my house makes me melt into my surroundings... makes me happy and peaceful!
DeleteThat's a relief! Hope you have a great road trip!
DeleteGreat to see your studio, and the cameo from Jenny Egg. She must have her own fan base by now?! Love your new quilt-in-progress.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss my Eggster this next month!!!! That's a long time to keep me from my sweet dog! ;-)
DeleteIf you do stop in Johnson City, visit Echo, a really neat vintage shop "manned" and well-curated by a lovely expatriate lady from New York. There are some other fun shops there and a good place to eat and have a beer is the Pecan Street Brewery, or if you head down 281 a bit, you hit Blanco and could eat at the Redbud Cafe and visit some shops nearby. The Hill Country will probably still has its share of wildflowers.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! We will most likely be stopping in Johnson City! Will keep my eyes peeled for it! thanks!
DeleteLoving your new stretched hex and tumbler quilt, great colours and feature fabric.
ReplyDeleteSo good to see you back on video and your creative space at your house - enjoy your Texas trip!
Thanks for the video peek into your home studio. You look so relaxed! My creative space got all clean and organized this week and it only took a couple of hours of trying out new ideas before it was back to normal. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteLove your stretched hex WIP. Look forward to seeing how it evolves.
ReplyDeleteYes, outdoor sewing is the best! (if it's not too breezy)
My first time (but not my last!) on your blog. Found your site on anka'streasures. Looking forward to some fun and inspiration! Granny Sue
ReplyDeleteIn Asheville, go to Biltmore Village. New Morning Gallery is really cool (I got a wrought iron quilt hanger there, as well as pottery and wood items). Corner Kitchen is delicious, as well as Fig. Don't miss All Souls Episcopal Church. They have beautiful needlepoint kneelers-all different. They also have incredible quilt alter cloths and banners. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your studio with us so we know you make a mess like the rest of us! Enjoy your trip with your darling daughter.
ReplyDeleteLoved this look at your studio in the country - you inspire me to take my sewing machine out on the terrace! Maybe after the mosquitoes are gone. ;) Have a great trip to Texas!
