I got the BLUES!
yes!
My BLUE DWR commission is still sitting on my wall. (two months now.) I needed to buy more BLUES, so I did that Sunday at City Quilter... Now I am ready to rock and roll, and get this quilt figured out, and made!
Can you believe this will be my 20th Double Wedding ring?
I collect a huge pile of fabric when I begin. I like to have as many options at my finger tips as possible when I start, then I add, edit, and substitute unit l get it just right. Follow that Intuition!
This quilt will be KING size, so I'm really considering what the over all design and effect will be. The Client only specified, She wanted king Double Wedding ring in blue, so my playing field is complexity open! LOVE THAT! That is the most fun about quilt making for me... Playing around, trying new things, and see where it will lead me.
My biggest challenge for me, personally, on this quilt, is BLUE. It is not my favorite color to work with... Although I do like a good navy/indigo, particularly in my blue jeans. ;-) I can wear it as a favorite color, but to work with....Well, I sure would like to drop in about 50 more colors! We will see how well I do on that!
What a fabulous design wall you have! I can't wait to see the double wedding rings in Cedarburg this summer.
ReplyDelete20 Wedding Rings? Wow! You can probably make this one in your sleep. (don't you wish) I like the Blues :)
ReplyDeleteYou will find a way to sneak in a little color! 20 DWR quilts is impressive! You must have it down to a science! Have a great and productive weekend!
ReplyDeleteI did a blue and white quilt once. I had wanted to do it so badly and although it is pretty, I totally understand what you mean. I like my colorful quilts much better. I also made a mostly red one (my fave color) and I don't love it as much as I thought I would - maybe after it's quilted...I love the way you can think outside the box with a DWR!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm glad it's THAT kind of blues!
ReplyDeleteLove what you're doing with the DWR and all those blues!
The quilt looks great! I agree with you about using blues. The blue seems a little lonely without the other colors. :)) After making so many DWR quilts, do you have some tips you could share about constructing them? DWR quilts interest me, but also look a bit intimidating.
ReplyDeletePretty! Not worried, you never seem to be stuck for long. Wish I could say the same!
ReplyDeleteI know it will lead you somewhere spectacular!!
ReplyDeleteCan you add a bit of turquoise? It's a happier color but still "Kinda Blue." (my favorite Miles Davis album)
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the quilt will tell you what it wants...a little pop of something not blue to bring it to life! Love to watch your process, Victoria.
ReplyDeleteLooking promising.......can't wait to see more!!
ReplyDeleteHi!!!!! It is already beautiful!!!!! Very pretty blues!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about colour palettes. I just made a commission for a client who specified low volume blues and greens - very pastel. I wanted to add it all sorts to make it sing, but was surprised by how pleased I was with the result. Sometimes it's good to have one's boundaries pushed, isn't it. Love your colours and the design.
ReplyDeleteI do love blue, so it would be easy for me. My son wouldn't let me put red into his black & gray Storm At Sea quilt--that was so difficult! So I understand!
ReplyDelete20 double wedding rings that's amazing, they would be great to see. I love how your signature quilt is looking too.
ReplyDeletewill love to see how you solve this one. i love 2 color quilts, but I think you have to sneak in a little bit of yellow or red, just so the blues sing.
