Lyric Kinard: Giveaway!

Way back in November, while at Festival, I met Lyric, as we were chatting across the table with a large group of friends, and she mentioned that she was going to be taping the QUILT show in Feb. I piped up and said, "Really? When? So am I!"  It turned out that we were taping on the same day!  Small world!  This was wonderful on so many levels.   One, getting to tape and spend the day with someone you already know is grand! And also,  Having now known her, it made for a little girls get away!  We had so much fun tooling around Charleston together.

Lyric is an art quilter/ teacher/music lover, who has so many fun tricks up her sleeve.  I learned so much from  her, while watching her taping! So many other things for me to try in my quilts! She opened up a new set of tools for me to explore.  


Lyric was kind enough to give me a copy that I can giveaway of her Book, Art+Quilt Design Principles and creativity exercises!  It's so cool that we were put together because even though we make different kinds of quilts, a lot about our books, relate.  Inspiration, tools and exercises to get you trying new things, and all the good stuff about design!

    I haven't tried painting on fabric - I have the paints, the brushes - no reason not to jump in - I just haven't!
    I was in Charleston last year - I loved - we saw so many trees like the one you are in front of :)

    As I think about it, even though I've been quilting for years, I have a very long list of techniques that I haven't tried. Trapunto, paper piecing, and machine quilting are probably the top three. Can you tell that I'm an appliquer who hand pieces and hand quilts?

    I haven't yet sewn a curve or sewn a dresden plate or done blocking a quilt to get it to the right shape... SOO much to try - sooo much to learn!!!

    Hello! I'm not sure if it counts, but I've never entered a quilt in a show/contest. I think I've tried all the quilting methods, application & quilting methods. So, I should make that my new goal for the next year.

    I have never tried Trapunto. I am thinking about doing it with a little piece I'm making right now, but don't have any idea how to really do it so I'll have to wing it.

    Many things including following "the rules". I have not tried intricately pieced blocks, or fabric dyeing. I'll gladly skip those blocks, but I really want to try my hand at dyeing fabric sometime. Any thanks to you and Lyric for this giveaway.

    I could not think of anything that I hadn't tried yet as all I could think of were the things I had tried, so I was reading through the comments to see what I could find there and there it was: screenprinting! I have got the screens, I have got the paints, I even got some paint thickening powder to add to regular fabric paint, all waiting for the right time.

    I really have been trying to learn to be more free with my quilt making, just cut shapes and work with them in a quilt, I want to learn to do more textural quilts using different thread weights/ fabrics/ layering of fabrics, just not cottons...
    sort of like collages with paper or paintings with layers
    but with fabrics...
    I need to break out of the box! would love to read this book and own it would be awesome, thanks!!!

    This is a tough one - when you've been quilting for...wow, 38 years? eeshh! Well, I have hand quilted, but I have never set up my antique quilt frame (in the attic) and put a quilt in it for hand quilting. I wonder if I'll EVER do that! (I remember crawling under the quilt frame as a young girl!)Thanks for the walk down memory lane! :)

    If I had answered this question before October 2011, my list would be very long. That is when I joined a small group of friends in an art quilt group. We meet once a month and experiment to learn new things, and every two months a new 12x12 is due to be show. Our topics include words, colors, themes so far. Now it would be photo transfer, and manipulating fabric for texture. O course, they are on the list to try.

    This book would be great for my group so fingers crossed! I love Lyric Kinard. She is so talented, and very gracious in sharing what she knows.

    Quilting so excites me! I'm always eager to try and learn new things although at times I'm intimidated. This year I've made it a point to continually ask myself - what am I waiting for? I'd like to learn how to embellish with thread and paint.

Reading through the comments, I have done about everything, except I haven't ever quilted on a long arm, and I haven't tried free motion quilting on a treadle machine, though I have heard about that. I have not done a realistic portrait on a quilt, though most of my quilts are a story in quilt form. I love a challenge!

    Love modern and all types of quilting but applique has always been frustrating to me -tried just a bit and was left frustrated. Thanks for the giveaway and have a wonderful trip. Dian

    I would love to do a wedding ring quilt. Yours from QuiltCon was beautiful - inspirational - but it is a project that terrifies me.
