Thanks John! It was just the break I needed....
There is a definite learning curve... Maybe one day! It looks like I know what I'm doing right?
Then I came home and flipped through the new APRIL/MAY QUILT magazine...
And I saw this quilt... Deb Finan, the editor of Quilt Mag, and Mary Koval, (antique quilt dealer/historian) were talking about an old quilt, then gave the pattern for it... I was so struck by it, and I had to play and make one block...
I may need to make more...
Don't 'cha think?
Oh you definitely need to make more of those wonderful stars :)
ReplyDeleteyes you need to make more and yes I think you need a long arm machine with all the quilts you make AND I can only imagine how creative you can get with the quilting.
ReplyDeleteok I need to make the quilt just like the antique one too! I just happen to have fabric in the closet that would work to reproduce the antique one :)

Yes you do need to make more!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty block.
ReplyDeleteI have only played one time with a friends long arm - I sure don't have room for one and they cost sooo much! love that quilt block.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a gorgeous quilt block, worthy of a big quilt for sure?
ReplyDeleteI see you getting a long arm, they certainly are nice!
would love to play on a long arm someday:)
ReplyDeleteyes - more blocks! King size at least... And then quilted on John's machine;-)
ReplyDeleteBig Rig... LOL! LOVE that name! So clever! You look like a pro with that machine.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous poster who said to make more and quilt it on the big rig!
Looks like fun! Would love to learn to quilt on a long-arm, and dream of a machine of my own someday.
ReplyDeletebettcha you get hooked on the long arm! bettcha, bettcha!
ReplyDeleteGo, Go, Go!! I bet you had a good time with John... Hi John!! Yes, and I do think that you need to make more of these blocks.
ReplyDeleteSuper duper fun!!!! did you try both level of handles? they also make micro handles.. sometimes it's just finding the right handle for you and how you work.. then it goes ZOOM ZOOM! And you just 'made that block'.. oh my.. you rock!
ReplyDeleteToo bad I don't live in NYC! I would love to take a turn trying out a long arm machine!
ReplyDeleteAnd please keep making more of these blocks - Your use of color and your AMAZING fabric stash are so inspirational!!
Yes!
ReplyDeleteA must! More please!

I got my HQ18 2 weeks ago and have done 4 of my quilts ! I am loving it ! 10 more to do...
ReplyDeleteLove the name "Big Rig" perfect for a guy who quilts. I almost bought a machine like his, but settled for a grace king frame, a very nice frame, and a Juki 2010, and honestly am glad I did. There is such a learning curve as you said. I'm still learning, and half the time, I baste on the frame with the machine, take it off the frame, and fmq the way I learned, moving the quilt. Crazy I know. I will buy a "big rig" someday, but not for awhile.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I love that block! I can't wait for this magazine to come out. We can't get it yet, can we?
ReplyDeleteI am jealous.....you two are having too much fun!
