Home from Africa

We drove off road for 100's of miles, no roads in site... See that ONE Acacia tree waaaaay off in the distance? (Just left of center)  Looks like a good lunch spot!

We are home.
I was thinking, as we flew home, how was I going to make posts that represent the absolute beauty of what I saw in Tanzania?
I took 2,064 images. How do I break them down?
Should I walk you through it daily? By animal? By people? By places?

I decided to share with you first, the thing I was the most moved by, COLOR.
The trip was overwhelmingly more fantastic, then we had even thought possible.
First off, the COLOR of everything is so inspiring! From the colorful clothing and textiles, to the color of the earth in different parts as we traveled from place to place, to the contrast of the sky, to the pink of a lion's mouth when he roars, or to an unexpected flower on the plains of the Serengeti. I had so much fun taking photos...As you may well notice...

Sometimes I just could not pick up my camera...We walked through one small towns' market, the smells and sites and people were amazing. Bags of dried beans, rice, corn, spice, and fish. Shoes made from left over tires, used clothing, to new clothing, fruits and veggies galore... but it felt like an intrusion to pick up my camera... So I just soaked up the experience.
We had a amazing guide, Henry, and we thank him so much for taking 8 days to share with us, his beautiful country.

More to come...

A perfect spot for lunch. Nothing but grasslands, wildebeests, and zebra for miles!
Masai children
Red earth and beautiful faces near Karatu, Tanzania
Women at market, with fresh fruits.
A Masai herder, walking roadside...
A female lion yawns, as she has a stand off with a Leopard, who is chased up another tree, nearby.
Unexpected color of wild flowers on the plains of the Serengeti.
Near the end of our journey with an amazing sunset...

  26. My aunt and uncle lived and worked in Tanzania in the 1960's and when she went back in the 1980's she kept saying that it was the smells that brought her back in time. She said it just smelled like Tanzania. Not sure what she meant, but she sure knew.
