Christmas decor has always been big in our house, since I was a kid. Now I have quite a collection of vintage ornaments and also family pieces of my own. Many are those plastic Santa's and reindeer, which inspired my Ornament design. Slightly stiff, but very cute plastic reindeer! One tradition we have in my family is to make a new ornament every year with my daughter. We've done snowflakes, ceramic ornaments, beads, wrapped fabric balls, you name it, We've done it! I just love a homemade decorated looking tree!
We have many other traditions here in our house at Christmas time... One big one is, we go to Strawberry Fields, in Central park every Christmas day. It's also where my husband asked me to marry him, and where we take our Christmas card picture!
Another tradition in our house? To watch the vintage Rudolph cartoon every year... So my ornament design for the Aurifil Designer Blog hop is based on those vintage looking Reindeer Christmas Decorations...
Feel free to make his nose red!

ReplyDeleteoh, what lovely and personal traditions! I miss Rudolf in Sweden. All Swedes watch the Disney Christmas Special from 1954? every Christmas Eve, at 3 pm, but Rudolf ain't there! Thanks for the pattern and chance! Lizzie in Sweden lizzietillstrom at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThere's something very special about home made decorations :)
ReplyDeleteLove it - thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely traditions. We buy a couple of new decorations each year for our tree, usually when we're away somewhere, but I hadn't thought of a new handmade one each year.
ReplyDeleteI love Strawberry Fields too - we surprised my mum there on her 50th birthday. She'd gone to NY with my dad and me and my brother turned up unexpectedly. If that doesn't sound like much of a surprise, we don't live in NYC, we don't even live in the US, we're in England!
I love a homemade looking tree, too! We have white lights, red bows, candy canes, and then whatever the kids or I have made over the years. Your reindeer looks very sweet! I may print that out for the kiddos in my elementary school group who loved hand embroidery yesterday to do. (Of course, there were some who HATED hand embroidery yesterday. Oh well, it takes all types!)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of making an ornament each year. I tried that, but with boys it didn't last long. They decided crafting was for girls and wouldn't do it any more. Maybe I'll have better luck with my new grandaughter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the free pattern.
Thanks for the lovely ornament. I am glad embroidery is coming back.
ReplyDeleteI let my daughter pick a new ornament every year. We actually do have a new Rudolph ornament and a vintage Rudolph. Thanks for the chance.

ReplyDeleteI had a tradition of my son and I watching "It's a Wonderful Life" every year at Christmas. Now he had grown up and we don't live together anymore. I miss the time we shared. It is just not the same watching it by myself. Love the homemade ornaments! They are so full of rich memories!

Watching Rudolph is a tradition here at our house as well. I think your Rudolph is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love this cute little reindeer. Of course he'll probably have to have a red nose. One of my favorite ornaments is a red reindeer, that is the whole thing is red velvety fabric. We figure may be the Red-Nosed Reindeer thing was lost in the translation somewhere. When my daughter was about 2 that was her favorite and we couldn't pack it away after Christmas, it just lived in her toy box for a whole year. I also love the homemade and handed-down ornaments.
ReplyDeleteCute! Our family watched the old Christmas cartoons each year too. The new ones just aren't as good as the original ones.
ReplyDeleteCute ornament. My tree is also filled with old ornaments from my tree as a child, ones my daughter made when young and the rest are mostly handmade by myself, friends or Christmas craft fair finds.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
