I'm a bit obsessed with Dresdens...Not that I make that many, but the ones I do, I really like... And when I am thinking about making a new quilt, it usually starts with using Darlene Zimmerman's Dresden Plate ruler.
Darlene is having her 20 year anniversary making her fabulous tools and fabrics for the quilting community, and together with the Salt Lake Modern Quilters, a challenge is being raised to make Dresden Quilts! And... I am happy to announce that I will be a judge, along with Darlene Zimmerman, Michele Muska and Jacquie Gering!
Here's the blurb:
The Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild is excited to announce we have partnered with EZ Quilting/Simplicity and a host of other manufacturers to celebrate Darlene Zimmerman’s 20th Anniversary designing quilting tools for EZ Quilting. To help them celebrate we are hosting a challenge — Use the EZ Dresden Ruler to create a project, then enter it to win amazing prizes from our sponsors!Categories
Small/Mini Quilts: maximum side length of 24″
Traditional: 50″ minimum on one side – using a traditional Dresden plate format
Innovative: 50″ minimum on one side – use your traditional ruler to create an unusual design
You don’t need to use Darlene’s EZ Dresden ruler to enter, but we’d sure like it if you did! Any 18° wedge will do. Come back here from September 1-6 to link up your projects. You can enter up to three times, one project in each category, any project you have started this year.
We have some amazing sponsors who have donated prizes. Our judges will pick their five favorites in each category, then decide as a team the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners (one from each category).
All the details are listed at the SLMQG click link.

ReplyDeleteIt is sunny and 66 degrees here. When I was sorting thru my vintage scraps for the Sunbonnet Sue quilt I constructed Memorial Day weekend for a friend, I came across a bunch of dresden plate pieces. They were hand cut using a cardboard pattern which was also in the tub of scraps. It would be nice to take these a make a quilt out of them. I also have a dresden plate quilt in which the feedsack plates are fine, but the rest of the quilt is totally shot. I guess I should un-applique the plates and re-applique them. Hum, I will have to think about this.
