homemade goodness.

Mother's Day didn't turn out quite like I expected. I had a migraine that kept me in bed all day long. Thankfully, early in the day, I picked a load of rhubarb from my garden and brought it back to the city with me.  So guess what I did today?  Rhubarb Jam.  Yum!

Today is also a day to  get projects in order for the flight to Kansas City/ Quilt Market on Friday. Boo's Birthday is coming up and she wanted a wrap jacket like I made back here. (click for old post) It's hard to see it here, But it's an A-symmetrical wrap jacket similar to mine. There is NO pattern for it, I make these things up as I go. I started out sewing ( way back when)  a lot of clothes, so I can kind of do these things in my sleep.

I'm making Boo's with black on the outside, and grey on the inside, which is the opposite of what I did on mine.  She's such a NYC kid, she likes black.  I am stitching out the leaves in blue thread, her other favorite color. I then cut out the black and the grey shows through.  You can find out more and HOW to do these type of stitching in these books:

Alabama Stitch books by Natalie Chanin.

I also got a couple quilts back from Shelly for longarming... I just cut the binding for this quilt, inspired by Amy Ellis's Book Modern Basics.   The tulip fabric came from Spoonflower. I can't recall now who designed it, But I thought it looked so great, fussy cut, into the blocks.
I made this over a year ago, I'm slow sometimes. LOL
:-)

I feel like I am fighting off another migraine... Perhaps this rainy, humid air is messing with my head...

Maybe I should go eat some sugary jam... ;-)

  2. So sorry to hear about your migraine taking away your Mother's Day!

Looks like you are getting some terrific projects done though.
Love B's new jacket....now you have to teach her how to stitch the leaves so she can have a wearable project too :0).

    Take care and
    Happy sewing

  3. Been there, migraines are no fun at all. My friend, the nurse, used to tell me to have a diet coke and eat a cookie. Or several. :) When I used to get bad ones - for years - I would sometimes rub menthol on my temples, so your body/mind would smell/think about that and not the pain. It worked sometimes. Good luck! (your rhubarb jam is SO Minnesota!)

  4. Oh how I love rhubarb! Growing up in Rochester, NY we had it growing in our backyard. It's one of the many things that doesn't grow in Florida. Your tulip quilt looks fantastic - I don't remember seeing it before. Hope you're feeling better.

  5. This weather doesn't help, I get sinus headaches.
I used to love rhubarb pie, so I am sure the jam is just as delicious. Since I don't eat sugar, jams are out, but I make sauce with blueberries and that is my jelly.

I can't wait to see how Boo's jacket comes out, love the color combo, I am into black too.

  6. I made two strawberry and rhubarb pies on Sunday! Yummmy! As for the migraines, take two Aleve, 5 minutes later it will be gone. Also check the labels on everything you ingest to make sure it does NOT contain ASPARTAME. That chemical will give you very bad migraines.

  11. Have you tried feverfew for your migraines? Miraculous. Get it at the health food store and take it at the first sign you recognize that a migraine is coming on.

glen of the four day intense headaches ---- no more!
