OK. I'm out last night with some pals, and we see this person standing outside of the Thomas PINK store... "Is that a statue?" someone asked? Nope... Just a guy... dressed up! Trying to be serious of course, representing the store... I couldn't resists, saying..."DON'T SMILE!" when I took his picture... He had a very hard time not smiling! hehe... to fun.
Later we ended up at a restaurant that had SMORES for desert! YES! We were ROASTING MARSHMALLOWS at our Table over charcoal... Who knew!

Quilters Take Manhattan: Denyse Schmidt & Mark Lipinski at FIT

This event will include a live Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories (Q.S.O.S.) oral history interview with Denyse Schmidt (above left), iconic quiltmaker, teacher and entrepreneur whose stunning couture and custom quilts (since 1996) and “work” quilts (since 2003) reinterpret traditional patterns with a modern sensibility. Quilts from Denyse’s upcoming book, “Denyse Schmidt: Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration” will be exhibited at the event and Denyse will do a Q&A after her interview as well as a book signing.
Mark Lipinski (above right), the bold creative genius behind numerous print, web and TV productions, most recently the web radio show Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski will lead off the event with his talk, “Mark Lipinski Explains It All to You.”
Selected house-shaped quilts from the Alliance’s “Home Is Where the Quilt Is” contest will also be displayed at FIT and the rest will be exhibited at The City Quilter (133 West 25th Street.).

This cocktail party fundraiser will feature and celebrate the full spectrum of quilting and quilters today. From a hands-on quilt performance to old time music we’ll experience why quilts are still making a not-so-soft impact on culture and history like no other material culture. Rub elbows with our event speakers, Quilt Alliance members and partners who are leading the charge in creating and documenting the next wave of quilt history. Cocktails, demonstrations and music in the cozy yet sophisticated studio and home of Victoria Findlay Wolfe (above), co-founder of the New York City Metro Area Modern Quilt Guild, owner of Bumble Beans, Inc. and founder of the Bumble Beans Basics Quilt Drive.
