Challenge

Matisse as Inspiration

I'd like to try to do a quilt along/challenge with you, if anyone is interested.

The idea being to Use the above painting as inspiration.

Then at the end, show everyone's quilts to see what we all came up with from the same inspiration, at how we all saw it in a different way...

The next few days I'll share some of my processes with three different quilts
as ideas (not rules) for ways to loosen up.

It's mostly about seeing, and finding a free flowing rhythm that lets a quilt decide what it will become in the end. By looking at modern art and utility quilts, and coming up with something that doesn't require the use of a pattern.

I'm not the wordiest gal around here, nor a very good teacher, but perhaps by my examples, and the above painting, we could work towards an end product and post along your progress and challenges and perhaps find a way that you can reach a different way to see a new process of creating.

Let me know what you think.

  1. it's been far too long since I did this sort of playing/design- I am in.

I will put up an inspiration I have been keeping for quite a while as a guide-and like you...we shall see what I come up with....
    thanks for the motivation!

  2. Sounds like fun...been feeling in a bit of a rut trying to just finish things. I have some postcards from a show in London that I loved and hoped to use for inspiration some day...could this be the day!

  6. What a great idea! Way out of my depth though. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of drawing on inspiration from the masters. Someday I will be skilled enough to play along!

  7. What an interesting idea and thanks for proposing it! I would like to participate, but not sure if I'll be able to reclaim my own personal time-space continuum by then. Will let you know!

Have you heard of Different Strokes from Different Folks blog? Hell, maybe you originally pointed me to it, but it has sort of the same idea with lots of different artists contributing their version of a photo. Cool idea, lady!

  9. Okay, you have twisted my arm, I'm in. I only have several other things piled on my plate, (one of them huge) but how can I resist? Besides, Matisse is mostly my favorite painter. I say mostly cause every now and then he slips to the number two spot, but only briefly.
