Happy Valentine's Day!

Here is the Granville rooster quilt, with my vintage 9 patches put to good use. I'm happy with it. I feel like my machine quilting is getting better, but I still have to get used to my new machine and getting the tension just right... Sometimes It works well, then suddenly, it gets so tight on tension, the thread keeps breaking... so i loosen it, and then I get a bit of the top thread through the back... Maybe its just get broken in, and needs more oil...?? gotta find out about that...


It is a cozy quilt, perhaps a little to SWEET for my taste, but I love the colors and fabrics, and the variety of old and new fabrics.


I finished the Zip quilt this week also. I'm quite happy with it. it was fun to put together, its bright, and it put me in a very ORANGE, PINK and PURPLE mood! Come on Spring, I'm trying to help you out a little!



I love the back of it... Great print, and color.

tuesday dreary

Susan ,had asked if I had a pattern for this project. I have to say I've never used a pattern. But I did, make a sketch, which, I also rarely ever do. But I was doodling on the phone, and did this. ( I was on hold, so it's ok!)

Its pretty easy, and went together very quickly. I used
3" x 6" rectangles color of your choice = 130 cut pieces. (26 per row)
+ 13 WHITE (65 cut pieces) 3" X 6"
+ 13 WHITE(65 cut pieces) 5.5" X 6"
+ 6 WHITE 4" strips to join them all together...
and maybe and outside border but I haven't gotten that far yet....

to make the above pattern, and flip flop them to make a like a zipper effect...

I will also add then, a 4" long strip of white between each row, as I prefer the rows a bit farther apart...


Easy Peasy!

When I cut out my rectangles, I cut WAY to many, so i am actually going to make another one, but make each row, one color... And will use the same purple for the backing on that too. I don't know what it is with me and purple lately... very NOT ME! ooh! wow, I'm really out there!

But then again, I just bought some of this, below.

Now THIS is me! Right!



AND, I may have to EAT MY WORDS about using a pattern... I saw this on FLickr... Isn't it awesome! I guess it's Moda Fabrics. I love it.
I just might NEED one of these quilts.....

Monday happenings.

First off. I was naughty.

I started a new quilt when I said I wouldn't until I had those others done...
oh well.
But I got this, and I just had to do something
so I could use this as the backing!
How could I not!

(NOTICE: there are no blues or turquoise in this quilt. ok, there is brown...
oh, well, I sort of tried something new!)

I sit here AGAIN, cleaning my studio... New York DUST, I swear is the worst. I clean the floor of my studio everyday. And dust bunnies build up that quick... So the hard to reach places, Wow! MoNsTeR dust bunnies! Nightmare quality...
And since I got the new machine, I felt like I needed a new arrangements so I can get to all my machines when I want to, so I have embarked on a complete switch-a-roo! I added a design wall, so i can stop laying things out on the floor, Since i had space to do that, I just needed to move things around a bit. So far so good.

One day I will get to my desk... sigh.

Messy, messy, messy. Things just pile up...



I have been cutting squares from all my scrap bins for the past week. I need to seriously make them smaller. they overflow all over. I feel like I haven't even made a dent in them!

I found many vintage fabric squares, that was a treat! Woo hoo! Add them to the bunch! And so many wonderful scraps of fabric, that can tell such a story. Mostly of my daughter growing up.
Fabric from a vintage dress I cut apart to make her bedding for her crib set. Scraps from clothes I have made for her, hats, diaper covers, toys...

A really tacky XMAS print sundress I made for a themed Christmas party we had one year. I was dressed as a Suzy homemaker... Go figure!
Fabric from quilts that have long since been loved so much I had to repair them.
It was like walking down memory lane. Made it even more real, how fast time goes by.
