Spotted JOY

Relaxing on my holiday, but still had to finish one quilt... My Personal APP quilt for the Road to California show.  I decided to hand quilt it, at the last minute... which is fine, as long as you can sit next to the fireplace to do so. ;-) In my cozy chair!

Which I did. every day so far!

I used Aurifil 12 wt thread for the quilting, in blog sashiko stitches...

I really enjoyed working on this quilt. I hand appliquéd the middle section, and then hand quilted the hole thing... I used one layer of Quilters Dream cotton select and one layer of Quilters Dream Wool batt to add stability and LOFT to the hand quilting... I love how it adds volume to the details...

I never met a polka dot I didn't like....

I used my trademark fabrics... Polka dots, stripes, made fabric and large florals... heavy on the Polka Dots...My favorite color, ORANGE! ( Shocker right?)
I quilted a BIG V in the middle... those who  met me through my blog, call me "V" when I meet them in Person, as I used to always sign my blog posts, ~V

I added a detail of Aurifil 12 wt thread stitching on the binding, before I sewed it onto my quilt.  I like the "V's it aded on the edges... something new and fun to try...

I was not the ONLY person in the Findlay Household to make a Personal App quilt!  My daughter Beatrice, who insists she is not a quilter, decided to make one as well!  (squeal!) She loves computer programming, coding, processing... It's what brings her JOY at the moment, so that inspired her quilt.
I love what she did with hers.... but then again, I'm her mom, so I get to be proud, right? ;-)

We will be taking full on shots of the quilts shortly, but for now...  I only have one flat shot before I started quilting it.

If you are going to the Road to California Show, please take pictures of them, for me!

  1. They are both gorgeous! But what is a personal app? Like an icon?

    1. Great question Toni, That is the challenge... What would your Personal App look like? (if you had one) It was wide open for interpretation...

  6. Both are great! I understand your "mother's joy and pride," but as a quilter and not a computer geek myself, I'm much more drawn to yours - not sure I get Beatrice's - love your polka dots and quilting.

  9. They are both fabulous. I love how B took her passion, a very modern and sometimes sterile thing, and put it into fiber art. How fabulous. I coded for a year, not my deal, but I loved her piece. OK onto yours, quilting out the dots looks FAB and I just love the mix of design you have in yours. Two solid pieces that draw in the viewer. Happy New Year and travel safe!

  10. it's not difficult at all to quilt through with big stitch... wool is very puffy and easy to quilt through, cotton is still cotton... ;-)
