Hand quilting.

Tis the season to hand quilt!!!

Soon as fall approaches, It's easier to have a quilt in my lap!  I've had this quilt basted for over a year, and it's been nagging me to start quilting it... I've decided to hand quilt it... I've been thinking about how to quilt it for ages, and since no big bright ideas have come forward, I decided to just jumping and make it up as I go.

The plan is 15 minutes in the morning, and 15 at night... I don't have a lot of spare time to sit and hand quilt, but I can easily do the 15 minutes twice a day... I love how my quilts feel when they are hand quilted... If only there was more time in the day...

I'm using Aurifil 12 wt. thread for some big stitch, embroidery, and decorative stitches to quilt it.
This weight is just slightly thinner then a perle #8. I love it... It does not twist up on me, and I can easily run the thread quickly through all the layers... This quilt has wool batting inside, so it will be fun to add some puffy texture, here and there...  My thread set has 12 wt... They are a great price on my website... you won't find them for a better price...

I feel like someone is watching me...

Do you remember the old post about this quilt?

See here the full story of how this quilt came to be.. CLICK HERE.

Found the perfect Terrie Mangat fabric for the backing...  Fabulous....
;-)

Have a great day!!

  3. do I have a hand project LOL - always - hexies, tumblers a quilt on the frame - two applique on hold and I'm sure I'm missing something - I'm not such a busy gal as you though and have lots of time for my hand work.

  4. I'm still quilting my Beyond the Cherry Tree 100 x 100 appliqued piece. All 25 blocks have been outline stitched and I've started on some border appliqued. I have about 1/2 of the 3/4" grid work done in the center. Started the hand quilting on this baby Jan 1, 2013. What needle do you use? I find it hard to thread that thread.

  5. Always, and usually more than one. I've got a needle-turn applique going (well, theoretically, haven't picked it up in a month), the never-ending hexies project, and some knitting that needs to get done before holiday season kicks into high gear.

  6. I do a lot of hand-piecing, and love it. Would probably hand-piece everything if I could. But, of course, some things have to be pieced on machine, and there are too many things I want to do, which just can't be done by hand. When I first started quilting, almost 20 years ago, I also hand quilted everything. But then menopause happened

  7. Got stuck! and, I met a fabulous long arm quilter, and I had way more ideas than time to piece and hand quilt. So now I'm very happy to leave all the quilting to my fabulous friend with the big machine!

  8. As a matter of fact, I was just about to sit down for the night and start working on my (I think it's a Christmas) quilt. But I desperately need to have something on tv and there's nothing on to watch! Going to check my dvd collection . . .
