Organize!!!

Which came first?

Above was yesterday,
 below was today!
 What?
Yes!
I pulled everything out of my studio, cleaned, then decided what needed tone eliminated form my space.. It was time to move somethings around… so below is all the "stuff" that must fit in my space… Not matter what your space is, You can easily fill it up… right?

First of all, everything with wheels, was taken apart… This little table was dropped as low as it would go, then half covered with batting and fabric to make a nice ironing station, and half cutting station just to the right of my sewing machine!  I love this set up. I have that at my house in the studio and it works so nice for me… Since the table is lower, I can easily, cut and iron… and work much faster, then all the  hoping around I do!
See? It's about 6" lower then my sewing table. Perfect!
My printer cart was under the now "iron/cutting table", so I took off the wheels, and propped it up on the wind ledge. and both printers fit perfectly on it!  Next my stationery cart.. paper, inks, etc…wheels off, up it went as well! Now I have more space   for my scrap and project bins!!! Perfect!!!
My desk… I raised it up 5" so I could move the file cabinet under it. The file cabinet used to be next to my sewing machine with an iron on top,but it was to high for me to really work on… So!  Problem fixed! It's now out of the way!
Also, I had the tall bin of baskets smooching up next to one of my design walls… I re-organized my thread, cords, and other "STUFF" and also put that up on the ledge! More space!! Perfect for me to stuff a roll of wool batting! But it must be done!

Now to tackle all the other, "Stuff" I have to keep in this space… sigh…

What will you be TACKLING this weekend?

  1. we all have so much stuff crammed into our sewing areas don't we - I have a narrow room - only about 8 1/2 feet by 11 and my big 3 roller hand quilting frame takes up 3 feet width of that space at least plus the length - I have tried to be as creative with my space as I can be - sometimes I move to the dinning room table also :)

  3. Wow, I always love to see how other people organize...doesn't mean I'm going to, just that I would like to. I know nothing in my sewing room will get organized until January. I will be up to my eyebrows in alligators (fabric, patterns, wrapping paper, etc.) until the holiday season is over.
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Th s close up view made me feel good. I have so much stuff too and sometimes I think it's just me who can't organize. I do need to get into the closet and purge the piles I have just shoved in there but it will have to wait til after the holidays.

  5. Your studio space is dynamic and changes continually as you go thru your weeks. It's fascinating to see how others organize and deal with the necessary pieces for a good workspace. You do so much in your studio that to me it is a marvel in motion. Thanks for the super pictures.

This weekend promises to be calm and recuperative here in LyndaLand. I caught a tummy bug and hope to be fit and ready to go by Monday but that'll require being still-not the easiest activity for me to accomplish. Having a Chrome Book helps-I can compute while lying down now.

  6. Yep, me too. I have more stuff than will fit in my room, but it's the only room I've got and none of the stuff is extra! So hard to work like that because when you take out all the stuff you need for a project out, there is no room to work on it. Sad face.

  7. My you are ambitious for Christmas time! I still am contemplating trying to get all the decorations up throughout the house, and some baking done (maybe). How fun to be in Manhatten during the holidays.

  8. Well, tonight I reorganized furniture in the living room and tomorrow the tree goes up! It will take all day to decorate it. But I take my time and it takes about 2 days... :) yay!

  9. You are so creative with your available furniture and space.
Tree up today and wrapping the Grandchildren's presents. The remainder of the week will be spent icing the left leg following vein stripping. Hoping it goes as well as the right leg did a fortnight ago.

I must admit it has made me be organised for the holidays.

  12. Wow what a studio you have, is quite envious. Love these big windows that gives you a lot of natural light = a bit more envious ;). I tend to fix my sewing place every second week when the cleaning girl comes in - lucky me.
My weekend will be spent with (hopefully) the last batch of octagons.

  14. This whole reorganisation thing is something I need to do and dreading it! Only a small space to do it in so just the taking stuff out of cupboard is going to be HUGE. Yours looking really lovely though. Inspiring!

  15. I will be finishing up the top of my Aurifil BOM - I'm liking it a lot! Perhaps I may save the organizing for New Years Day, since we will be leaving for a few for Christmas, then coming back home with just my daughter and 2 grand girls - THAT will be my Christmas for sure, just being with them. And my little girls really like my room, maybe I can get some feedback how they would like it!

  16. OH how I wish I could have my sewing room back, however with a room like yours. I would replace all the stuff in the middle of your room with one big harvest table and clear the rest of the area so i could move around the table with stools, like sewing machine on one end , computer on the other and plenty of room in the middle for cutting . Ya know like those salvaged wood made for you tables with chunky legs :) OH how lovely, then maybe have all storage and ironing around the windows like you do already.Just dreaming I guess...:) Whatever you do will work for you ..

  17. I'm lucky to have a room to call my studio, but oh man, it is so small and full of stuff and cramped! And, at this moment, the usual godawful mess. A good clean-out of the cabinets and closet and re-org/sort of the stash and bins will help, but is unlikely before January, if then.

I alike having to get up and walk to the ironing board on the other side of the room (only 3 feet away... when the ironing board is up there is very, very little free floor-space). Helps me feel my butt isn't putting down permanent roots into the chair.

  20. Nothing but dyeing, washing, ironing and shipping miles of fabric here. I love my job! After the rush is over I need to do some reorganizing too. I hotel have a bit of sewing time soon too.
