early morning play

The house is quiet. It's the first Saturday since school let out, and everyone is sleeping in.
Except me.

It's BEAUTIFUL outside, I sat outside on our deck in my jammies, and watched NYC wake up slowly...

I snuck into the studio, and start cutting red's and greens…
A few stolen moments, until the dogs, daughter, and hubby are awake, and life starts spinning forward.
(Thanks Jess Wheelahan for your fabulous green text fabric….it found a home!)
SUNBURST TEMPLATE HERE
Off to play on this glorious day….
They say it will be nearly 60 degrees today in NYC! CRAZY!!

Enjoy your day! What will you be doing?
Don't forget to comment to win on the Havel's Rotary cutter and MAT! scroll down two posts.

  1. I generally like to sleep in, but some days, getting up early and watching the world awaken is a joy.

  2. No sleeping in here either. I was up sewing at 4 am, nothing particular, just playing around with some 3" phonebook paper squares and scraps. Sometimes ideas hit at really odd moments! I love the pattern you're working on, and the color choices work.

  6. Very nice out here on the island too. Just went out to do some food shopping, and I was very surprised to see the store empty, and even the roads seemed quiet.....no chaos yet! This afternoon I am going to pick out new glasses before my voucher expires (nothing like waiting until the last minute!). Then I am going to do some sewing. Have been in a slump lately, and hoping that a little session in front of the machine, will get me back in the groove. I know this is probably a silly question, but do you ever get in a slump, and if so, what do you do to get sewing again? Hope you enjoy your day/weekend. P.S. I love your views of the city!

    1. Hi! I don't really get into sewing slumps. However, I do get in moods where I need to just sew any old thing together… this christmas quilt was just the trick. It went together very quickly, it's just for me, It doesn't' have to be perfect, it can be scrappy without thinking to hard, and best of all, NO DEADLINES! Now, I've had my fun, and must get back to those DWR's… ;-)
      Happy Holidays!

  11. Early morning coffee laced with solitude. No traffic or lawnmowers yet!! A dove is awake as I sit with my leg in an ice pack. I'm crocheting small stars a'la attic24 and enjoying the days.

  12. Love your new Christmas quilt! I've slept in, had my pot of tea and now will get a few Christmas gifts wrapped up. I baked all day yesterday, so I'm planning on a lazy day today--roast in the crock pot.

  14. I sewed in the sun today and saw some robins who thought it was spring, but my little Christmas quilt reminded me otherwise. Nice break, tho!

  15. Love your xmas blocks - I see you've gone for 12 rather than 9. I've a few last minute food bits to buy, then I hope to get some quilting done on a donation quilt. Want it finished by year end.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family :)

  16. I rarely sleep in, which drives my kids crazy when we are on vacation. As we usually are at a beach, I go out on the balcony and watch the beach come alive.

  18. Living in a rural area I too loved seeing New York wake up. Thanks for sharing that and your morning with us. I'm a teacher just starting winter break so though I still get up early, today finds me lounging in my jammies...heading into my studiosoon to start some "vacation" projects. I'm envision fabric pieces everywhere! LOL!

  19. 5:30 am starts for me this weekend, snuggled on the couch under a quilt with a mug of coffee, listening to the birds wake up and waiting for the sun to appear, then into the studio to do some quilting. Love being awake early-early: so lovely to have a few hours to play before the daily to-do list needs attention.

  20. We live on long island but decided to spend the weekend in the city. My husbands gift this year was to see Wicked. It was truly a great show. Better than I expected. We both couldn't get over how warm it was. I say enjoy it while we can right! Visiting this time of the year every year for us helps keep us in the holiday mood!! And of course great shopping!!!!!
