Summer Ramblings

Mother is loving all my big Hydrangea bushes. This past week, since we had a few HOT days, they finally turned a true BLUE!  It now feels like summer, and I am loving it. I've definitely gone into slow poke mode around here. I have found it hard to get to the computer to post with company around...right now everyone else is sleeping!

I'm still working on finishing the same projects I talked about last week... procrastinating others...

Cooking and trying out MANY new recipes, as that is my favorite thing to do in the summer, as I have a nice big kitchen here, unlike the one I have in NYC. SO much easier here. The Rhubarb is still growing wildly in my garden so I had to.. yes HAD TOO, cut a bunch out to make this much needed Strawberry Rhubarb pie. LOL!

I roasted beets from my garden last week, and put THIS SALAD together. I can tell you it's THE BEST.  Seems I've been posting more at my food blog! Lobster and sweet corn last night, Asparagus with leeks and bacon today. Boreks tonight...Yum.  Recipe for Asparagus will be posted if after I make it, I like it. I only add recipe to the blog if I've made them and like them. (Must like A LOT!)

I love summer. ( and good food)

Boo snapped this picture of Kia... (aka: the Pillow Squasher) seems she fell behind the cushions again...

Looking guilty as ever... Jenny Egg is enjoying being out of the city too.  She is definitely a country dog, and hates the city. She's such a nervous nelly. She can bark all day long at deer and squirrels, instead of people and dogs on the streets of NYC.

I'm off to the post office. Seems a BIG box has come back from being quilted! So I will  have something to show you tomorrow!

Happy Monday!  Find something Yummy to eat today!

  1. I smiled when I read your post - being a native New Yorker, it always makes me a little homesick to see things that we don't have down here in FL. Enjoy that rhubarb for me!

  3. Oy! Summer food! There's nothing like it. I love blue hydrangea's so thanks for the glamour pic of them. It sounds like you are enjoying summer and having your guests around. Have someone eat a slice of that pie for me.

  4. Your kitchen looks huge! It is great to be away from the city in the summer. After living in Hoboken for 4 years (I have moved since) I learned why everyone came to where I grew up (the beach) in the summer.

  6. Looks like you are enjoying your summer with your family. I have such fond memories of my childhood in Amagansett. I stayed with my grandmother who had a ceramic studio, and sewed us our summer dresses and made hooked rugs, so I guess I got my love of crafting from her.

  8. I *LOVE* the photo of your beautiful mother and the hydrangeas! it looks like her eyes are the same shade of blue as the flowers.

Rhubarb takes me back to my childhood. It grew in our backyard. I'd whack off a stalk and dip it into a teacup full of sugar.

    Thanks for today's double smile!

  9. Summer time in the Northeast is amazing. It can get sticky... But everything is so lush and green.

Thanks for sharing it with this displaced Yanky

  15. That looks wonderful Victoria. I wish I was there! Love blue hydrangeas, they are my second favourite flowers. Apparently the ground has to be acidic to turn them blue. If you buy one in a pot and plant it in non acidic earth, it will be pink next year (unless you especially feed it) so the ground there must be acidic naturally.
