Projects and gifts!

WOW! What a fun treat to come  home too!  A belated Birthday gift arrived in the mail today from Shelly! Her mother and her collaborated on this mini quilt for me, the BIRD being one of mine from my "Birds of paradise" embroidery pattern.
I LOVE the blue and mossy green palette and the bits of BRIGHT in the fabrics and the stitching are FABULOUS!  Thank you so much, you TWO very special women! Wahoo! I love it!
LOVE the stitching too.... check out the nice big flowers... gorgeous...

I took a  break from QUILTS the last two days and made a TOTE bag for myself out of
SILVER VINYL! Isn't it fun?  I get a bit sparkly when I use it... as some of the sparkle flakes off, but it's work it... ;-)  I also made the wrap jacket I have on...  I made it copying a knit wrap sweater I have, ( and  have had for 16 years!) and wanted another one... I took two colors of T-Shirt knit and made it reversible, and then I am doing some hand stitching on it, and reverse applique like the Alabama Stitches books...  I figure it will be a good travel project as I can WEAR it and take it off and sew on it!

Looks fun right?? I'm loving it!  Above is the stitching and below is the crazy silver vinyl I used to make the tote.

I wasn't the only one who got into PROJECTS at the sewing machine... A tween Birthday party gift... I made a tote and Boo made the cat pillow....  All is well in the universe!

Besides QUILTING...

What projects are you working on today or this weekend?

  1. What a fun post. Your wrap is wonderful - as is your bag. I love seeing Boo working on the machine - a new generation :). No big projects, a little yard work - it's been so beautiful here lately. Have a great weekend.

  3. I'm in the process of beading a hand-dyed and hand-beaded scarf for my stepmom. Love that sweater jacket thingy you have on! You're right. It will be great for travel. Avd the vinyl bag? Fun!!

  5. I always love seeing Boo working with fabric. The rest of your post is amazing, beautiful quilt with embroidery from Shelly, silver bag, the view from your balcony (yes?) in New York! and your jacket. (Ha! ha! - good travel project - you can take it off and do some sewing on it). Today I am working on Ochre, trying to make a mini quilt out of it - you'll see it soon. Have a lovely rest of the day.

  6. Yeah another talented sewer! What a nice gift and a gorgeous wrap. I'll be interested to follow your applique. Bought both of the Alabama books but have yet to try their techniques...

  8. Love your wrap and bag! ;) House cleaning this weekend and hoping to work on finishing some of the borders on a few quilts. Maybe I'll make a bag too! And of course yard work! I love spring!

  9. Love the silver tote, and look forward to seeing your wrap embellishment progress.

I'm making a lavishly beaded "bucket hat" from the 3rd Alabama Chanin book, and this morning chopped the top off an old (seriously old: 20+ years!) ruffled rayon tank dress and used fold-over elastic to make it into a skirt that's more age-appropriate for both me and it.

  11. Love the silver vinyl tote!!! Very cool! I am working on crazy quilting blocks. I have 23 of them that are almost finished and while I recover from my surgery, I am focusing on the blocks and the final stitches needed to call them "finally done". LOL! It is so relaxing to sit and stitch and know I don't have to vacuum or lift a finger for the next four weeks. :-)
