More like one piece of fabric instead of layers. It probably won't matter really.<br /><br />The quilt is looking awesome!!! Can't wait to see it quilted and it really comes to life. Hand quilters do - to remove the bulk. It looks so good, thanks again for pro...Fantastic! It looks so good, thanks again for providing a way for us to help out. That cut away the backing question is sure to spark loads of debate. There's no one right answer in my opinion, especially if you are not hand quilting the quilt. In this case I'd say cut it away but leave yourself a generous seam allowance for stability (due to the fact that it's on the edge of the quilt).
